Is the pirates ride too scary for a 2 year old. I have only been on it once(in 99) and I can't remember much, plus I know that they have updated it since then...does it have a drop or anything?

I can't remember as far back as age 2, but I do remember that PoTC was BY FAR my favorite ride as a 3 year old. The beginning part of the ride might get a little bit scary with the skeletons and the very small drop, but as soon as you get to the singing and plundering, it's all fun and games for all ages.

The "scare factor" at the beginning of the ride is very minimal, so if your child scares easily, you maybe might want to cover his/her eyes for a minute or 2 (but that may not be necessary). There is a small drop (very small) which honestly shouldn't be enough to scare a young child.

I'd personally give this ride my seal of approval for a 2 year old, but that's just my opinion. There's no height requirement for PoTC that I can remember.

My DD has been riding it since 14 months old (just turned 4) and she loves it. We just have a deal where I hold her hand during the very small drop (also when it is the darkest). In the battle scene, she also doesn't like it if a gust of air (cannonball) hits her, but because she sits so low, that is rare.

All in all, she has ridden it at least once every trip, which now numbers 8.

My son was 2 months shy of 4 on our last trip. He loved Pirates. In fact he keeps asking to go back to it and is singing the song all the time. There are some scarier things for kids. Mine just like us to hold their hand when it's scary.

The first time my daughter rode it she was 12 months and loved it...we rode it over and over. When she was 18 months, she buried her head into my chest the entire ride, but did not cry. We rode it over and over again and she did this every time. When she was 24 months, she only buried her head into my chest during the first couple of minutes when the ride is darker. Also, the drop is very small, nothing to worry about it. You really will not know until you try it, but I think your two year old will be fine...I rarely see kids crying on that ride. I would just make sure to take him/her on other rides first to work her up to POTC.

My DD first rode it when she had just turned 3. I thought she might be afraid, so I told her about the pirate with the hairy leg and dirty foot. She was so excited to see him, that I don't think she paid much attention to the rest of the ride!:ROFLOL:

My bro and parents took his son last year, and he was only 2.5 years old. He went on It's a small world and that's it. But that's because he was too scared of the dark and my bro and sis-in-law didn't push him to do anything else. I think if you will inform him/her that it will be dark and there's a small drop and keep reassuring them I'm sure it would be fine!
I went was I was 3 and the only memory I have is nearly crapping myself on the snow white ride because the witch scared me so much, but she was just really scary! haha I sat with my head in my mom's lap, and I was fine!

My daughter was fine on dark rides when she was younger, but as she got a bit older she didn't like them. Ages 4-7 seem to be the worst for that fear. She's getting over it again now.

Funny thing is, she's never hated "thrill" rides (loves them in fact), it's the simple dark ones that get her....

In Disneyland, there was a little girl (4 or 5) seated in front of me who seemed scared of the ride (not crying or hiding, just saying "Is this part scary? This is sort of scary, Mom.") ... unless Jack Sparrow was there. Then she was happy as a clam.
When the ride was over, she asked her mom if they could go again. So it couldn't have been too bad.

My son was 2 the first time he rode Pirates. He was a bit scared the first time through, but by the time the ride was over he loved it. After that, he wanted to ride everytime we walked past.

I recall having my head down through most of the ride when I was six (except for the Pirates life for me song. I remembered it from that old 60s special) but I was a wimp back then

my daughter is two, and Im sure she would love this ride! she is quite "adventurous" herself, so I could only imagine her happiness at the ride, lol.. I say go for it unless of course your young one is the shy scared type... there is a small drop... you may get a small splash on you.. but other than that, its a fun ride for the young ones to see!

I would suggest you play the Disneyland special on the attraction to them so they can get an idea. That's how my parents did it for me. But I don't think it should be too bad.

My son was 22 months old when we went last year and he loved it. We rode it more than any other ride. He had watched it on the vacation planning videos before we went though and I had been singing the song to him since he was born. I agree that the only problem would be if he is scared of the dark. My son wasn't last year but when we watch the planning videos now he says he's scared-it's too dark. He still likes the song though!!!!

Well. Since it was refurbished almost 2 years ago to be like the movie, it will be pitch black dark in the begining and if your child has seen the last 2 pirates movies then maybe. But it gets less scary later.

My DD who will be 3 in a few months has been on Pirates at least twice. Although she hates the dark, for some reason she loves this ride.

my daughter went for the first time at 2 and my son was 3 months old his first time. Neither were scared. The drop is gentle as a playground slide. The only part that was kinda scary for my daughter was the face in the smoke at the beginning which is a new effect. We just distracted her. Now she loves Pirates of the paragean.. as she calls it.
