Is Pal Mickey Worth Picking Up?

I'm going to Florida tomorrow (woo hoo!) yet I'm curious. Last time I went in 2005 I noticed Pal Mickeys around and they seemed pretty popular. But i couldnt afford the price tag.

I'm a total sucker for neat gadgets like Pal Mickeys wireless system and a big kid at heart. Is this worth shelling out for when your an 18 year old or strictly for the kiddies? Just I can see the appeal of having Micky as a tour guide but not if he tells me what I already knew all the time

I think Pal Mickey is a good boredom buster when your waiting in a long line and I'm 26. It's definitely a "to each his own" item though. If you don't mind carrying it, which by day 3 or 4 you might, then it's a good investment, but if you think by day 3 or 4 you're just going to leave it in the room I think I'd pass on this particular purchase.

He makes a good football while waiting for the bus!

Seriously, like people have said, he's cute and fun for the first few days...but after a while, you just don't want to carry him.

How much do they cost?
Pal Mickey is $65 + tax.

As to whether or not it's worth it...that's not a one answer question. It depends on your likes, preferences and such. Some people don't want to carry around what amounts to a talking plush. However, some people - myself included - think it's a pretty darn cool talking plush; that it's Mickey and that the technology is fun and creative.

Someone just asked yesterday if it was worth it in another thread. It's an individual thing though. So many people - including adults - liked the Pal enough that they didn't return it after renting it, that Disney discontinued the rental program. If nothing else, that speaks for the popularity an interest among Disney-goers in general. Whether or not he's for you...? That's one of those things no one else can really tell you.

That's not a reason, it's one person's opinion. And, I've already stated that it's not everyone's "thing." But for as many who do not like Pal, there are as many who do. It's a personal preference thing. Same as anything at Disney from what rides we most enjoy, what restaurants we most want to eat at, to which resorts we like to stay at. There really is no "right" or "wrong" answer to the question since it's entirely what you like and don't like personally.

Do a search and you will find many opinions.

As for mine, hubby and I loved him in 2004! We went for my 30th birthday, and the very first thing I did when I walked into the park was get one. He didn't leave our side for (most of) the trip!

We took him to every park at least once, and most parks more than once. Seemed he had a surprise for us most every day--we would walk in just a slightly different spot and we'd get a new piece of trivia, or an event was going on that he wanted to tell us about that we hadn't known about the day before. You can't assume that just because some info is repeating that ALL of it will be redundant. He has some surprises, that Pal Mickey does.

We didn't really play the games, but we understand that the next generations since have had more to do (we had the first release). By the 6th day of our trip, we weren't bringing him everywhere just to cut back on the weight we carried each day. But again, don't drop him home too soon--you could miss out on some fun stuff!

We got to chat people up around the parks, too, who wanted to ask about him. That was a nice side-effect. :)

I recommend him to anyone, but especially gadget geeks who will just love the tech in and of itself.

Didn't the original poster ask for people's opinion on it? I gave the OP mine. I'm not sure what you're talking about.
Linking to some random, short, and meritless commentary isn't your opinion. It's linking to some random, short, and meritless commentary. It's not a review as it provides no reason for dislike, nor factual information.

If you personally don't like Pal Mickey, share why yourself - then it's an opinion.

I bought one on my last trip in Sept/Oct 2006 (just as the YOMD version was coming out). He is $65.

The good news: I did not find him cumbersome. He clips onto your belt. I enjoyed taking pictures around the world with him posing in them (stuck him in a dragon's mouth in china, sat him in front of everest in DAK...). He is amusing when you are waiting in line, and he is amusing to people around you and you get to know other guests through him. He told me a few things I did not know in World Showcase and Animal Kingdom.

The bad news: He's overpriced. You can't tell when he is going to tell one of his corny jokes or he actually has something informative to say. His jokes are REALLY BAD. You will be tempted to buy him little outfits (mine has a safari outfit) which is a waste of money. He sometimes talks up at inopportune moments and causes everyone to look at you (for example, everyone is gathered watching the gorillas play in silence and awe and he feels like telling a joke). Most of what he says is stuff I already knew. By the time he makes a suggestion to get on a ride because of short wait time, and you get to the ride, the wait time has increased because everyone's Pal Mickey told them to go there. I dont' need his directions to get around the parks. Get three pal Mickeys in an area and they all giggle at the same time and say the same thing and it can be a little odd.

In summary: I like mine, although I regret paying that much. He's a nice souvenir and will be fun for my kids to play with (he can still play games at home). He was fun to take pictures with and talk to other guests with.
