Is it worth the $$?

I changed my reservation at Boardwalk to a water view with a balcony. My question is in your opinion is it worth the money??

I think it's really a matter of personal opinion, as there is no right or wrong answer. If you feel like you will be able to enjoy the balcony and the view, then sure, it's worth it. For example, if you plan on spending all of your time outside the room in the parks, etc, and only sleep and shower in your room, then I'd say it probably isn't worth it just to have the view. But if you plan on enjoying some time in your room, perhaps a drink out on the balcony at the end of the evening, then yes, it can totally be worth it.

Keep in mind the water view will probably overlook the Boardwalk, which could be both a positive or negative depending on your preference. You can probably see the street performers from your balcony. This may appear to some - others may not want such activity outside their window. It may get loud in the evening due to people on the Boardwalk. This may not appeal to you. Or you might not care. It probably is such a pretty view though!

I have a new camera that I'm learning to use, that's the main reason I upgraded. I think I should be able to take some good photos from the balcony. Sunrise and street performances should make for a great target.

I thought all of the Boardwalk rooms were considered water view, since it's surrounded on water by 3 sides. Also, don't all of the rooms have balconies?

Not according to Disney's website.

Standard rooms with Standard View:
offers views of Disney's BoardWalk Inn gardens, leisure pool or parking area
Standard rooms with Water View:
offers views of Disney's BoardWalk and Crescent Lake
Both room types note that not all rooms have balconies.

Maybe I'm thinking of the Villas. Looking at a map, it seems all Villa rooms have views of either Crescent Lake, the canal between Boardwalk and Dolphin, or the main pool.

When I booked water view I was hoping to be looking out over the Boardwalk. Is that Crescent Lake?
Yes I believe you either overlook the boardwalk/crescent lake, or you overlook the pool area. IMO its definitely worth the upgrade. The boardwalk just looks amazing at night and if your lucky enough you can see epcots fireworks.

There are two main thoughts here, and I too struggle with this each trip. Either save the money because you are not going to be in the room often, or splurge on the room you want. I was once told - it doesn't matter how you get there, just get there. I struggled with not being able to afford going to WDW this year b/c we couldn't stay at the Poly. Once someone told me this sage advice ( which I know should be obvious but sometimes it takes me awhile), I rebooked at POR Royal Room and added a couple of days and i'm thrilled. What I am trying to say is that it splurge if you want and if you change your mind, that's okay too because the most important thing is that you are going to have an amazing trip to WDW. Happy Planning!

It all depends how much time you plan to spend in the room. If you're going to be at the parks all the time, using the room to shower and sleep, then my advice would be...don't even book a room at Boardwalk. Go to the Pop Century and save yourself a ton of money if you want a place to crash.

If you are a more leisurely traveler, then go for it.

We love the water view from the Yacht Club and have stayed there the most, but we have enjoyed stays at the POR mansions. The ferry to DTD is very enjoyable in cool weather. WDW has a way to bring magic to you no matter which property you choose. You will love it, and be sure to say hi to Bob Jackson for me!

Our last trip was at the Yacht Club. We had a standard view, overlooking the main entrance (and basically, the bus stop). We still spent a little time outside on the balcony, but it was by no means as special as it could have been. But, for our situation, we felt we were already splurging on the room and our food plans - so, the view was just too low of a priority to justify spending that extra bit.

As everyone has said, it depends on the individual. Last year, we did a split stay at the Polynesian and Grand Floridian. I paid for a theme park view for both resorts. While it was nice to see the water outside and the castle in the distance, I would never pay for an upgraded view again. Those resorts are expensive enough as it is. I didn't find the view worth an extra $100 per night.
