Is it handy to stay where the monorail is offered as transportation?

planning a trip with my two kids, 14 and 12. never been to wdw.

looking at POR or maybe the Poly. the poly has the monorail, i might think this would be handy

also...feel free to name a resort. looking for three beds, couple restaurants on the PPTY, quick access to MK or Epcot, don't really care about pools...maybe this is a separate post.

thanks...ron

Well, get ready for the time of you life!:) I think that it would be fun to stay where the Monorail system runs and if I had a choice I would stay at the Polly for sure. The Monorail is great but I am sure that you know that it doesn't go to all of the parks so this is not a big thing for me.

We are going back in Oct of 08 and will be staying at POR. I have never stayed here but I have stayed at CBR & the Allstar resorts and have had fun each time. From what I have read about it POR is going to be great. :)

Good luck and I hope that you have a GREAT trip!

Welcome, Ron! (BTW, your avatar? Grrrrr.... But I digress. :lookaroun )

If you're really looking for quick access to MK and Epcot and not the other parks, you would do well with a resort on the monorail line. I have a short trip in February and I'm going to try to afford one. :D

I haven't stayed at POR yet, but I've read good things about it from folks on this board and from my friend, who booked it for us for an upcoming trip. But, other than that, I've only stayed at Pop, which I love.

Good luck!

The Grand Floridian has two queen beds and a daybed in their standard rooms. If you take the monorail, the MK is the first stop! They also have Narcoosee's resturant which is also wonderful.

the nice thing about the monorail resorts is not only the monorail, but the theming, and the bed situation. Most rooms have 2 queen beds and a day bed, as someone who has stayed in Poly with kids before they do like it! I took my niece two years ago and we stayed at the contemporary she thought the monorail coming through the hotel was cool, but hated the starkness of the room, the next year we stayed at Poly! She was all about Poly, she loved the water slide and the theming she especially liked that when it was time to go to sleep she could see the Castle from our room and that she had her own little bed, my mom and I each took a queen and she got the daybed. I am a bigger fan of the contemporary b/c as a child that was my parents resort, we wouldn't go that month (we live very close and they use to offer special rates to Real Estate agents for some reason which is what my dad does) if they couldn't stay there! But for kids I think the Poly has a fun atmosphere!

If you plan on visiting the MK or Epcot more than once, the Poly may be more convienient due to the monorail.
Also, if you plan to eat at the GF any time during your stay or at the CR, the Poly would be a great location.
The monorail makes a stop at the GF between the Poly and the MK & then makes another stop at the CR after the MK.
From what I have heard about the Poly, it is beautiful.
Good food, nice rooms, nice pool, good transportation, etc.
I would love to stay there!
We stayed at POR last summer & it was nice, but I am sure that the Poly is nicer!

If it is in your budget and you want easy access to MK and Epcot, then I also highly suggest one of the resorts on the monorail or The Wilderness Lodge. We adore the Wilderness Lodge. Even though there is not monorail access, there is a short boat ride to MK, or an even shorter boat ride to the Contemporay where you can get on the monorail too. Also has the Whispering Canyon cafe and Aritst Point....two really great places to eat. So if I were you, I would check out some info and pictures of the Wilderness Lodge, the Poly, the Grand Floridian, and the Comtempory and choose the theming you like the best. I think it comes down to personal taste....We have toured all of these resorts and LOVE the feeling of the Wilderness Lodge the best....so much so that we never want to stay anywhere else. I wish I was there right now!! But whichever you choose, I know you will have a magical trip. Have fun!

I have stayed at the Poly, Contemporary, and Grand Floridian. My family liked the Contemporary the best. Not only is it on the monorail, you can walk to MK. It is only about a 10 minute walk. I did like the Poly too, you can walk to TTC from there. Our favorite is the Contemporary. I would suggest a tower room, and they have just renovated all the rooms. They are nice. The pool does have a slide and is located by the lake, quiet pool is on the lake. While it is not as themed as the Poly, it isn't as crowded either. You have to also decide which park you will spend the most time in. If it is MK, then the Contemporary is a good choice. Although all the monorail resorts have great access. You still have to take a monorail to the TTC and transfer to the Epcot monorail to get there. Happy Planning, and good luck!:)

Sorry, yes (that's what it means) I am just finally able to figure the intials out myself. It takes time, I still have to think about it. If you choose Epcot is your favorite (or even MGM) you might want to consider the resorts in that area. Our favorite there is the Boardwalk, it is a 10 minute walk to Epcot. You can walk to MGM, but it is a longer walk. Otherwise there is a boat that goes to Epcot and MGM. The Yacht and Beach club have a wonderful pool, and it is the same walking distance to Epcot and MGM. You can go on Allears site and look up dining, Deb has each resort's restuarants listed complete with the menu's. This year I am doing a split stay between the Contemporary and the Boardwalk. I couldn't make up my mind which one to go to. I still love the monorail though and being that close to MK (my favortie park, but no one else's) everyone else in my family loves Epcot. So I get the best of both worlds.
