Is Hollywood Brown Derby worth using 2 DDP TS credits?

Hi all,

I've been reading mixed reviews when it comes to the Hollywood Brown Derby. We have 5 TS credits during our stay, and am definitely using 1 each for Tusker House, Crystal Palace, and Biergarten when we are at those parks.

Is the food at HBD worth using 2 TS credits? Is it that good?

Our other option was to use 1 TS credit at another restaurant at Hollywood Studios (Mama Melrose's/50's Prime Time/Sci-Fi, or a nearby resort as suggested in another thread), and then use 1 TS credit our last day to eat breakfast at Chef Mickey's.

(This is only our 2nd trip to WDW and the only restaurants we tried last time were Biergarten and Tusker House.)

I would suggest not doing the HBD and doing 2 other places. It has been several years since we have eaten there but like you have heard many mixed review including that its not worth 2 TS credit. Any of the other choices at HS would be good...we like them all. And CM is a must do for most!!! you might want to check on line or call to see if you can get in at CM then make your decision from there. Good luck!!!

Definitely NO!!!!! Do the Hoop-De-Doo, Mickey's Backyard BBQ or Chef Mickey's for breakfast or dinner buffet, far more worth 2 credits than HBD.

No, and it's a shame too. From what I hear it used to be way better, but when we finally ate there last year it was a waste of money.

We happened to love the Brown Derby when we were there last year, but we did it as part of the Fantasmic package. I did think it was worth 2 credits, if you have the credits to spare. However, given a choice of 1 dinner there or dinner at Sci Fi PLUS breakfast at Chef Mickey's, I'd recommend the latter.

I love the Brown Derby and thought my meal there last fall was excellent. That said, in terms of getting the most 'value' for your TS credits, you're better off using the 2 credits elsewhere and paying out of pocket for Brown Derby. If we use the dining plan on our January trip, thats going to be our approach since we'll definitely be eating there again.

The only time I've eaten there was for Lunch w/an Imagineer. I don't think I'd use DDP credits if I were to eat there again. I'd rather book & pay for another Lunch w/an Imagineer!

No. It is a good restaurant but it is not worth 2 credits. If you are going to go there pay cash and use 2 credits on a much better place like California Grill or Jiko.

definitely NO has dropped in quality over the last 10 years. At one time was a must do and then after last December visit has dropped to the bottom of my list. Pay cash only - don't use 2 table service credits.

DW and I have been going to the Brown Derby since Hollywood (MGM) Studios first opened - and we are foodies. The most recent trip was on July 4 for lunch. We had an incredibly delicious meal - the crabcake and tuna tartar appetizers were memorably good and the Cobb salad (of course) was as good as ever. Service, too, was professional and courteous.

Although we do not often do the Dining Plan, IMHO, the Brown Derby is one of the nicest in-park restaurants on Disney property, better than anything else at HS, better than anything at AK or MK. Besides Bistro de Paris (and possibly Le Cellier and Tutto Italia), it ranks as one of the very top dining places in a park.

Nope. Used to be delicious and a must-do for my family. Then the menu got weird and the atmosphere changed and now it's a no-go. The Sci-Fi has the best food, IMHO, and fun atmosphere. PT 50's - not the greatest food (tasty but not really original) but really fun atmosphere.

If those are the only places you've tried...

Have you thought about Epcot restaurants like Tutto Italia? Le Cellier Steakhouse? Rose and Crown Pub? Places like Boma, Jiko or Narcoose's? Grand Floridian Cafe or California Grill?

Good idea on Chef Mickey's!

Just throwing out some favorites! :)

Thank you all for the suggestions! After much consideration, DBF and I went with the majority and decided not to use our 2 TS credits on HBD. After DBF saw the pictures of Sci-Fi and the novelty, he immediately got excited and wanted to eat there instead while we are at DHS.

amykissangel, I hope to try those on our next trip. Unfortunately we're short on time- on Day 1 our flight arrives at 7 pm due to the time difference between the West coast and East coast, so after traveling to POP and checking in, we might be cutting it tight on dinner. Days 2 through 5 are the 4 parks in 4 days, and DBF doesn't want to leave the parks for resort eating. Our last day, our flight is in the afternoon and we want to play mini-golf at Fantasia Gardens after eating breakfast at Chef Mickey's.

I think next time I'll book at least a 1 week so we have a "rest" day where we can try the restaurants at other resorts without feeling short on time or rushed. DBF isn't so much interested in trying the restaurants as he is in being at the parks and having character dining.
