We have been looking at going to wdw from 25 may to 8 june.just doing some research and it coincideds with gaydays.
I am a gay man myself and would be going with my partner, my sister her fiance and her 2 teenage boys.I am comfortbale with who i am and obvioulsy all my family and friends are too.im just not in to the gay scene and dont want to be associated with the stuff you read about in the press etc, about all the drugs ______ etc and the 'out' ness of it all, i find two men kissing at disneyworld as offensive as i would find a man and woman, theres a time and place and i dont think disney world is it.
is it as bad as read about? or are things as usual at disney during this time?

We were there accidently a couple years ago, I didn't know gay days existed. It will be fine, there was a couple of times when I did a double take but nothing really offensive happened. The first week of June is a great time to go. Have FUN.

I've been to the GayDays event many times, and have not encoutered "drugs, etc" at the theme parks. You need to differentiate what may occur elsewhere versus what happens within Disney's theme parks. There are organized Gay Days events throughout Orlando, not just on Disney property. I am certain that Disney would not tolerate something like what you said to occur on their property, even during the private White Party event at DHS, which you would not encounter unless you actually bought tickets for it.

The one and only reason why I would recommend someone NOT to go there during the Gay Days week is the crowd level. It is obvious that it will be busy that week, especially at and around the Gay Days weekend. But other than that, it is a fun time to be there, especially at MK on Gay Days Saturday itself, because the crowd tends to usually be a lot more ... er .... fesitive! :)

There seems to be this public misconception that walking into MK during GayDays is like walking into a Pixie Dust orgy... it is not. If you are "sensitive" to such matters, you should prepare yourself to possibly see a few couples holding hands and maaaaaaybe a kiss, but that's extremely rare. There will be no one in buttless chaps or anything else you might stereotypically believe you would see.

Don't be offended, but this thread will probably close very soon because they have a history of spiralling downward into a shouting match within about an hour of being posted.

I've only been there on Gay Days once, but I honestly wonder how much of what's reported is true. I saw a group of people singing on the ferry ride to MK and a lot of red shirts. That's all I remember standing out about it.

I have been to Disney during gay days a few times...since my career allowed me to have summers off and I enjoy a lengthier stay at the world it was the best time for me to go.

I have seen a few hand holdings...no kisses and found myself enjoying the happier, more festive atmosphere.

Just remember the "Red Shirt" is a symbol that you are taking part in Gay days so if you don't wish to be singled out as a participant just don't wear a red shirt. Since you mentioned you are gay, yourslef, though I recommend packing a red shirt just in case you change your mind.

The most I've ever seen is other "Red Shirtted" people stopping for a quick chat, a hello, a hug or to give someone a flower so you may actually enjoy it.

I think the question has been answered.

The parks will be crowded, there will be lots of red shirts around, you might see guys wearing princess hats and tiaras and waving magic wands, and getting a seat at a good restaurant will be impossible.

I have been during that weekend, with young children, at least 6 times, and have never seen anything offensive. Of course, I wasn't looking for anything, either. ;) Just a lot of people having a lot of fun at WDW. :)
