Is Epcot getting away from the future?

Saw this mention in one of the other topics and thought it would be good for it's own discussion.

Do you think that the direction that Epcot is going in is to make Epcot more of a thrill ride park? Or is it still heading in the direction it was intending. I myself am not sure. I like the rides that they have put in recently however the ones they have replaced I liked as well. It does seem to me like they are trying to get more thrill rides specifically in Eocot. Now don't get me wrong I like thrill rides. But is Epcot turning into a thrill park or is it still on course? I will let you decide.

Soarin Over California is NOT a thrill ride, just a very good ride. And I haven't heard about any "ride" changes to Living Seas expect a Nemo layover.

It depends, if Test Track & Mission Space are the only thrill rides in the parl, then NO, I don't think it's strays from Epcot's message. Remember you still have World Showcase, which hasn't been touched by any of this.

I think Walt's original idea for Epcot was a bit "pie in the sky". I think they needed these changes, cause as good as Epcot is, you need some more fun & adrenaline inducing rides to balance out with the learning & discovery things they have there as well.

Heck, times change, people's tastes change. What may have worked 2, 5,10 or 20 years ago doesn't neccesary work today.

People wish they still had Horizons and World of Motion, but let's face it, the general public didn't go on them enough to warrant keeping them around. Most people aren't as notstalgic as the "hardcore" (ie-people who post in here).

Im never sure what they are doing. Really its more of thrill rides with some education. Adding Test Track and then Mission: Space, meant adding more thrill rides. Epcot is still missing things. How about adding more rides in world show case? Itlay? How about a pampii ride?

What runs all those rides that you mentioned?

Technology.

Technology is advancing so we don't have to sit through those ' same old ' same old ' attractions that were destroyed for a reason.
I don't see anything wrong with the rides that have been built in the places of the former ones. To answer your question : In my opinion it isn't getting away from the future. Epcot has always been right there with it because.. The future.. Is now.

Both Test Track and Imagination are more modern than Futuristic. Universe of Energy and Cranium Command are also guilty of not being futuristic, but are now extreemly dated.

I've always liked Epcot, but I think Walt's orginally vision was met I do not believe anyone has a clear direction as to where it needs to go. I like Test track and MS, and feel they do sort of fit, but it seems as though the park itself has become "stale". It didn't hit me until my 7 year old asked what was the big deal about SE. We are already utilizing thoses technolgies daily (Internet chat, worldwide communications). Back 10-20 years ago that would have been "cool". Today its old news.

I actually think Epcot is the most well-rounded park on property. it offers the most in a single day. MK is still more of a "cornerstone" park with an eclectic mix of things, but mostly it's where you find the "most elaborate" examples of what Disney can do.

compare that to the more intimate and jumbled MGM (a park I can STILL get lost in some days), which has all of its "guts" exposed, or the richly textural AK.

Epcot uses boldly graphical images, in line with it's emblematic Spaceship Earth. the interior of Test Track, for example, is a blend of incredibly well-detailed tableaus and almost surrealistically flat, vividly colored "test" areas. it works perfectly, in my mind.

I hate to knock World of Motion, Horizons and Imagination (the REAL version) down a peg, but these changes help give Epcot a more unified 'style' which is previously did not have.

the emphasis is still on technology and growth, so I think it works perfectly. It is not my favorite park, but it is the one I will most readily spend a day in.

lol. there's a weird little stretch to the south of the New York Street that I find confusing when it's raining. I have no idea what it is about this area, as I know the rest of the park well, but that little jog never fails to confuse me.

it may be because I'm usually too busy thinking about why on earth I'm standing out in the rain like a moron. =P

You are not the only person that I have heard say that though. It's funny you would think the biggest park would be the easiest to get lost in not the smallest.:hammer:
