Is Disney watching us?

Disney tracks every thing you do. what rides.. how many times. what parks, when.. when you come.. what your name is, your kids name is, their birthdays.. Your birthday.. Your home town.. where you live. is this part of the advertizing zone.. you take a survey.. do you have cable? or satellite?
the internet.. they track you on the internet.. how often do you go to their site..

Disney advertizes heavily in the New York and Chicago/ Milwaukee areas.. when it snows, the more tv ads appear.. the same with those areas newspapers.. they know that these people need to leave the snow for relief.. and they have money.. or have been coming to Florida since before WDW..

so they push those areas of the country.. heavily.. it doesn't pay to advertize in Montana or those mountain states. .too far to come.. too expensive...

they know people will drive two days.. three is too much.. for a consistant vacation..

just call them.. ask them what they know about you.. heck the Disney stores used to track you as well.

They do that to see what they can do to convince you to come back and spend more money. From an attractions standpoint, we track how many guests an attraction has ride per hour to judge how popular and efficient an attraction is. In merchandise, the items that sell the most are constantly restocked so people will keep buying them. Disney keeps track of these things so that they can keep supplying what people spend the most time and money on.

Well, much of this so-called tracking is primarily committed if a person provides that information, not for the random person walking up and buying a ticket or making a purchase at a Disney store.

As for advertising, well, I'm not sure what that has to do with the original discussion about WDW and security. Of course they adverstise to those in the North, why wouldn't they. Oh, and I'm sure DL would take care of the advertising for Montana and other points West. But again, what this has to do with security at WDW......

Disney could be a target

Never say never! A beloved area, americana as apple pie, what lunatic would over look a target as Disney World. Thankfully this hasn't happen, but
it wouldn't surprise in the least. I pray this NEVER happens.

There are flight restrictions around dozens of sporting events every week too. I don't think many experts on terrorism would call WDW one of the "few" top targets.

Actually, Disney is one of the top few targets.... If you think terrorists only want to take out skyscrapers, you are sadly mistaken...

Lets be brutally honest here. Everywhere is a target. Everywhere. Agreed some places are going to be higher on "the list" than others but let us hope that those places are more alert to these horrendous threats.

Then put them to the back of our minds, relax and enjoy our time at WDW

I'm glad you wrote this, originally this post was just a thought I had about security and so on. So let's not get taken away with it, it was suppose to make us feel better about the measures they take to look out for guests.

I personally LOVE the extra security measures of Disney. If it wasn't for time...I'd say search everyone, everywhere.

At airports where people were up in arms about body scans invading privacy...SCAN ME. Scan everything. I'd rather take the extra time to get body scanned and have my "privacy invaded" as they would say and feel more safe.

I hope Disney has tons of plain clothed employees, cameras, security...bring it on. If it makes the world a little safer...I'm all for it.

It's kind of funny that this topic should come up, because I was just thinking about this a few days ago. I work in security and during a training class last week we were disscusing why terrorist pick the locations that they do and based on the charactertics WDW immediately came to mind. When you think of the number of causalities (especially small child) and the effect destroying it would have on our economy and our peace of mind and not just for Americans because WDW is a global icon, it most definately is a major target. But that's not to say we should all stay away and be paranoid while there. As the poster above stated, everywhere is a target, maybe not from religious and political terrorists, but just from the average nut case with gun who could walk into any public place. But that shouldn't stop us from living our lives and we shouldn't be living in fear either. All we can do is live each day to its fullest and try to be prepared if...

Disney has a very sophistcated security system...ie face recognition etc. As one poster mentioned about Las Vegas. They have cameras and monitors everywhere. As some of you know my mother is a 15 yr veteran CM.

My brother in law visited WDW last june. He went thru the turnstiles at DHS walked about a hundred feet and was surrounded by security. He was aked if he had a knife in his pocket. He carries a small pocket knife at all times. Those swiss army type. They asked to see it, examined it and returned it to him. You think they didnt watch him all day? Have him followed?

How did they know? you can only assume that they either had some type of metal detectors at the turnstiles or some kind of xray device. They specifically asked if he had a "knife". Even my mother dosnt know how they did it. She was present at the time this happened.

Another thought...if Disney is watching everyone as much as some of you claim, there would NEVER be a lost parent/child at WDW.

While they are watching everyone, they're only actively following the suspicious people. Therefore, the secret to avoiding a lost parent/child situation is to act like a complete nutbar when you first get to the park so that Disney will track you (and your kids) carefully. :D

What really worries me is whether or not I am EVER going to get an ADR for Le Cellier! The other stuff, I don't sweat. I have bigger worries getting into traffic everyday. Relax folks. Just try and have a Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah Day!!

Even in the terrorist world killing a bunch of women and children just won't float. Disney is filled with children and that will go over very badly in the Muslim world, Disney is not a target.

I would bet more on a domestic terrorist who has problem with gays showing up doing something demented for gay days(or whatever it is called).

I would imagine Disney is a child molester wonderland so for that reason alone you need a fair bit of security, one incident would cause Disney all sorts of problems. I'm sure that was thought of day one....

Right,

Because no women were working in the WTC

Pardon my formatting, but the 4 numbers at the end of each item are children killed/injured and total killed/injured

They may not target children, as it can have a negative effect on their goals, but they sure has heck do not actively avoid them.

It was a target, but not anywhere near the top. That said, MOST things people thing would be or should be targets aren't. Terrorists want to cause as much damage as possible. They aren't going to attack a Wal Mart in Iowa.

In a place such as disney or airports, I totally agree.
But in the "real world" we as American's must be careful not to give up our privacy rights just because we are a bit worried about a terrorist attack of some sort. plus some of the rules are totally bogus- no knives or "sharp objects" on planes- Yet I can have a sharpened pencil or a pen. Some may laugh at the pencil/pen thing, but one could do some serious damage to a person with either. so that being said, I for one wouldn't want to live the rest of my life in a country that is a "police state". It's a little bit: " can I see your papers please" , I think we all know where that leads.

But yes, I fell better knowing they are around at the parks.

* to everyone reading this, I in no way am implying that a certain race, religion,or demographic "specializes" (so to speak) in terrorism. I hope no one took it that way.

And so what? Exactly what can Disney do to protect you? I can think of several ways of getting weapons into the parks, and cause damage before security even has a chance to respond. It's all for show.

At airports where people were up in arms about body scans invading privacy...SCAN ME. Scan everything. I'd rather take the extra time to get body scanned and have my "privacy invaded" as they would say and feel more safe.

Let's see if you say that when those body scan images surface on the net (and they will, just wait). You can let them invade your privacy all you want. But you have no right to tell me I have to let them invade my privacy beause you are afraid of a plane going down. You have a better chance of being killed driving to Disney than being in a terrorist attack. Contrary to popular belief, the world didn't change on 9-11. Only our perception of it.

I hope Disney has tons of plain clothed employees, cameras, security...bring it on. If it makes the world a little safer...I'm all for it.

From what? There is no such thing as absolute safety. Most of the security measures in place would really only deter common thugs. Terrorists are much more methodical (generally).

Yes they are, but if the poster (and other guests) feel safer with the knowledge that Disney is doing the best they can to ensure their safety, so be it.....
