Is Dark Disney Secret Cause of Walt Disney Studios Book Recall?

Rebecca Cline (Director of Disney Archives) and Steven Clark (D23 Founder) released the long anticipated "Walt Disney Studios: A Lot to Remember" on Sep 6 of this year. Then within hours the book was recalled and public appearances for signing of the book were cancelled. For the few who could get a copy before it was pulled from vendors, the question of why it was recalled has been looming. But the Disneyana community thinks they know. The first Disneyland employee, first General Manager, and first Vice-President of Disneyland, C.V. Wood is surprisingly not a well known name. This is because he has been removed from Disney history for the last 60 years. Despite overseeing the construction of the park for Walt and Roy, Disney has never published any information about him. This is most likely due to Woody (that's what he was called) being let go of shortly after Disneyland opened and then going on to be a competitor to Disney, working on other theme parks like Six Flags. But shockingly, "he who must not be named" just got named for the first time ever by Disney along with a full 2 page photo of Woody, Walt, and other WED staff during the construction phase of the park. So what do you think? Is this the reason that Disney has had their first recall of a major Disney history publication? Will we see a second edition of the book with C.V. removed? Or is there another reason why this book, which was released only 8 weeks ago, can not be found anywhere but Ebay (yes, even Amazon has removed the entire product page!).

From what I recall, after leaving Disney, he opened a theme park in Massachusetts called Pleasure Island. I had been once or twice as a kid with my Cub Scout Troop. It didn't last long, but at the time it was all we had, for those of us that would never see Disneyland until adulthood.

I don't know much about CV Wood, but I believe the most notable park he produced was Freedomland USA, which was basically about as close to a knockoff of Disneyland as there ever has been.

You are correct about that, it was the second theme park C.V. Wood worked on after Disneyland and was a failed attempt to mimic its success (the first he worked on was Magic Mountain in 1957). The only comprehensive book written about C.V. Wood was published this year by Todd James Pierce, called "Three Years in Wonderland: The Disney Brothers, C.V. Wood, and the Making of the Great American Theme Park" - it's in my top 3 of books on Disneyland

Seems like it would be an incredibly petty and stupid reason for Disney to pull the book. Most people who have read any book published (outside of Disney) about Disneyland knows who Wood is.

That's my feeling too but then it's also so strange how Disney has never acknowledged the guy who built Disneyland for Walt in all of 60 years. This guy was only accountable to Walt and worked on finding the location to build the park, overseeing the construction, and attaining the sponsors. He's the guy who gave Richard Nixon the key to the park as the Vice President and General Manager of Disneyland. And yet, not a single word of him in any Disney publication, until now. It's very strange and it seems like there is a lot more to the story than we know

I love the fact he was a 2 time World Chili Cookoff Champion.

And the fact he was involved in bringing the London Bridge to Arizona.

I know that Walt and Woody were competing strongly with each other years after Disneyland. I wonder how much Woody's involvement with these World Chili Cookoffs were his attempts to continue that rivalry - Walt of course loved chili and had his own personal recipe for.

I've had this recipe for Walt's Chili...One word: BLAND.Horribly bland.

But, for what it's worth, if they still sell it at DL, I'll be trying it in October.
