Is Bay Lake Tower Really That Bad?

The waviness of the connecting bridge does it for me - and the view from Bay Lake with the spires of Space Mountain kind of gives the whole thing a futuristic look that's fun.

It doesn't look bad really on its own ... but that doesn't mean it isn't out of place.

And I've heard sales aren't nearly what Disney expected ... hence the fact they've had media tours of all THREE DVC resorts under construction in the hopes the reporters, broadcasters and bloggers will the product when they get home.

Maybe this will actually delay the GF Beach Resort Villas that are next up.

Is this insider information, or rumor? The rumor mill on the various DVC boards seems to suggest that there is a lot of resistance to DVC at GF from the hotel side of the business.

At any rate, with 5 resorts under construction (BLT, THV, AKV, Grand Californian, Hawaii), 4 on offer (BLT, SSR, AKV, Grand Californian), and a struggling economy, I would think any new resort is a bit down the road.

I like the Bay Lake Towers. It compliments the Contempary. I like how each of the DVC resorts are completely different from each other. The Bay Lake Towers are very South Beach-esqe. Very unique. I like the master bathroom shower, the water comes out of the ceiling.

If any one is going to complain. I would be complaining on how strange the Contemporary is right now. Down stairs in check in is like an airport.. Then you go up the escalator and you're seeing the monorail, an "it's a small world" mural on the large wall and a bunch of other construction...

It's something new. That's all.

Aww. I hope not. I think one DVC is enough on the Lagoon, even if it is called Bay Lake Towers. The GF needs to stay to its original imagineering and not add another building. Although the thought of a few studios, one, two, and three bedroom rooms at the deluxe resorts could be good idea. It's working at AKL on the top two floors. I don't mind that idea.

Yeah, because OKW, SS, the BW, and the BC DVCs look reeeeaaaaally different. ;)

I agree with you about the BLT. In fact, I can't wait to stay there, even though the exterior architecture looks very bland to me.

OKW, BW, and BC are very similar in their bland interiors, I give you that one. Lol. But for exterior architecture they're not the same...

But I love SS, partially from growing up in upstate NY. So I may be partially biast.

But I do see them differently.

And as for the architecture of BLT being bland, the only difference is that the monorail is not running through it and it in the shape of a O that has a bite into it. Lol. And the monorail is A framed. Lol.

Before they start building Hawaii, I think that Disney should refurbish the DVC rooms at OKW, BC, WL and BW. They're terrible. They need to be updated!

Maybe the fact that BLT and AK Villas are already being offered on the 7-4 promo is a hint? Maybe because OKW and SS are getting a $100 gift card for booking on the promo?

Wow! That new tower looks... :snore:

What happened to making cool themed resorts, like Dixie Landings or Animal Kingdom Lodge? This looks like something you'd find anywhere. They are trying to cater to families with young children. Why not make resorts that look like, I dunno, fairytale castles? Or cool 50s sci fi stuff? Or hobbit holes? It seems like there are tons of things they could do, and do tastefully, that would attract a lot of visitors.

I want to stay in something that looks like this:

Or this:

You know, fun stuff!

now i agree with some regarding the tower...

it should, imo, look way more.... idk CONTEMPORARY...saying it's 2009 and the contemporary resort was built nearly 40 years ago.

however within the tower the rooms look gorgeous, being a DVC member i've looked at the floor plans and pictures of the model rooms and it looks absolutely beautiful

Sure, and those would be great themes (although, see Cinderella Castle Suite for the first photo), but what do they have to do with the Contemporary?

Even the main building is just a bland tower. Sure, it's an A Frame tower with a monorail through it, but it's a bland high rise. It's a fun place, but not perfect. Ithink the that the Guggneheim interior holds up better than the Contemporary . . .

Based on promotional materials, I think the recreational aspects of BLT will actually be better than the Contemporary's - less hard materials and more green space. So, I look at the whole package rather than just the building.

If you're going to put a DVC at the Contemporary, and you want to do a tower, I think your options are somewhat limited. For me, the biggest bummer with both resorts is that the parking lots come right up to the main entrance - every other deluxe or moderate resort has a more stately or themed entrance than the Contemporary or BLT.
