Hey... my family and I will be down in Disney around Christmas... and I will already be in the Studios... due to my interview... but I wanted to ask all of you if Animal Kingdom would be worth going to... I have never been there. Is it sparse in rides... I know the scenery is good... but... ???

Sorry Maria but I so disagree! I was there and we had done everything by 2:00! The last time to Disney we didn't have enough time and had to cut a park off our list and AK was everyones first answer! It seems like Disney opened it before they had even half of it built! There are only 3 major rides so the lines for those are incrdible! Well if you have to cut a park I would cut this one!

I love Animal Kingdom - it ranks very highly with me. :)

People say there are not enough rides. Lots of people jsut run thru the exhibits without really taking in everything there is to see.
Animal Kingdom is not about *JUST* rides. Its about the amazing job Imagineering did on themeing, landscaping, story-telling and transporting you to a far off place.

Kilmanajaro Safari is just amazing, the sheer size of it is breath-taking. Each ride is different, so be sure to ride it as many times as you can! I could easily spend half a day just riding on KS over and over again.

Dont go there expecting a park full of rides - AK isnt about that. Go there expecting a unique experience, and a great adventure! :)

GO SEE IT!!!! The Imagination of Disney, GONE WILD! ;) :D

Well, I am totally with Maria! I realise that Ak is pretty short on major attractions, but MGM wasn't exactly overflowing with them when it opened either.

I love AK, and would never dream of missing it (however a few members of our group DO agree). I just think that it's a great place to visit, sure you can do it quickly, but we always like to take our time and just relax when we are there.

Hi everybody!
Just new to the forum but this is my take on AK.
While it wasn't my favorite park there are some attractions here not to be missed. The Festival of the Lion King was one of our favorite shows along with Tough to be a bug. The safari was the closest I'll ever get to the real thing and we thought it was fantastic.

FYI I'll be making my 3rd visit with my son Jan02; first time staying on site.

Welcome, tmli!

I agree with you, there are lots of areas in AK which appeal. They may not be e-rides, but I love them and think they are what makes AK so unique.

Thumbs up for the animal kingdom lodge....
the decor and ambiance are superp....but what makes it so unique is the Savannah....you go to bed and wake up with wild animals just off your balcony....

the only drawback was room size....this Big Old Dog had a lot of trouble maneuvering around the room without rapping his brittle shins on the wood frame of the bed...and apparently other guests complained about this too.

just one thing we would do different next time...we would stay on the lower floor...the upper floors are ok but trees prevent you from seeing any real distance into the savannah...the lower floors allow you to see under the trees....there are NO first floor rooms that face the savannah to protect the animals from the moronic humans.

oh.....and about the animal kingdom park itself....it closes much earlier than the other parks....but...we found that going there later in the afternoon avoided the crowds....we walked into every attraction without a wait...and this was in mid-summer.

If you haven't been to the AK, of course you have to go for your first time.

Bottom Line: AK isn't worth it for me. Maybe I haven't seen enough to judge the AK, I've only been twice since 98. But, the first impression always sticks with you.

AND I HOPE the AK is only like this because it is a new park, and needs time to expand. :snore:

You have to visit Animal Kingdom. You will not regret it. My husband and I spent 1 1/2 days there and never did see any of the live shows. It is so easy to get caught up in everything else. Just walking around looking at the animals can take a LONG time.

If you plan to ride Dinosaur take some ear plugs and be ready for the camera. The picture we have is priceless. A little boy riding in the front with his parents got off the ride asking his father if he was scared. The little boy insisted that he was not scared at all. The picture tells a different story. I just hope his parents bought the picture. It is a great one!

Sounds like my college experience.

Animal Kingdom is great. You just have to realize it's unlike any other theme park. It's a park that is more for taking your time and enjoying rather than running from ride to ride.

I love AK!!!! The rides are all awesome. The shows are great. Lion King is close to being the best show on property. Where else in the world (besides Africa) can you see gorillas like they are at AK.
The entire almosphere is awesome. Not my favorite park thought, but a very close second.

It´s not only an amusement park, it is also a giant zoo with a hospital for animals that were sick and they get from zoos all over the US. I wished there was a backstage tour so u could see all that is there behind the scenes! That´s one of the reasons I am so fond on AK.

Shows are very good. The Lion King Show has nothing to ask to the Broadway one! (maybe I exagerate, but I´ve seen both and they are great!!) It´s my favorite!

The theming in each area is superb. The international ambience is great too! You will find CM´s from all over Asia and Africa working there, just as if you were going to Epcot and found different nationalities. Take your time to listen to them and take deep look at the details in each "land".

I went more times to AK than to the rest of the parks while I lived there. It was always a different experience. The rides were also good... ITTBAB, Dinosaur, KS, KRR, etc. Another good thing is that b/c it closes earlier, you can still have dinner and catch a show in another park.

"Animal kingdom is awesome. If you want exciting rides, it's got those. If you want to just walk around and soak it all in, that's great, too."

Ok, now how close am I? This is just off the top of my head.

No, seriously, Animal kingdom is a must. The theming is totally amazing, it's unlike any other park.
