Is a sports-themed park a possibility?

Yes
Wide World of Sports is Disney's answer to a sports theme park. Obviously not a theme park, but a massive sports presence.

That (it seems like) no one ever goes to. I think Disney would make bank if they had a NFL team's training camp there.

I went there in June for a sporting event (national gymnastics).

And I know the Tampa Bay Buccaneers used to hold training camp there, I don't know if they still do or not.

I don't think many regular guests really visit, but there are a heck of a lot of sporting events going on there. All those visiting teams have proven very lucrative with resort room nights and park ticket sales.

Lord knows how much "bank" Disney has made off of me because of my daughters 3v3 soccer tournaments. Can't complain though, the facilities and pitch is always in perfect condition and the fun of being there with a small group of friends is priceless. Good times.

I think Tampa has training at their own stadium now.

But then you just know Universal would follow it up with a Ray Parker Jr. land.
Greatest post ever!

I actually went on pilgrimage to that bar. Yes, I really did. That much of a News fan. It was awesome, it looked just like the cover. I'd sooooo visit an entire Sports theme park! With toilets themed after Ray Parker!

Maybe the settlement allowed UNI to use Ghostbusters east of the Mississippi?

I believe this is a great idea and I really like it. The only problem is that it is to centered around one particular theme so to say. It is something people hold more personal than lets say the future, history, fantasy, animals, movies or such.

*Can you imagine the fights breaking out over rival sports teams?!*

Just googled it. Had no clue that it was a real bar....all these years I thought it was just a set piece built for the cover.

Interesting idea, but I don't think it would have a large appeal. And some people might be upset if their team wasn't highlighted.

Eh. Not a sports fan, so not excited about that idea.

I do wish they'd set stuff up for kids to do at WWoS. So many boys would be thrilled to train like real football guys or run the bases at the field, etc.

Not as their own park (I'm a big football fan but even so, IDK if it's a good theme for an entire park), but maybe a section in downton disney for a giant sports arena with batting cages, perhaps a half basketball court (full may be too big), practice drill type things for football, etc.

Kind of like how Disney Quest but for sports rather than video games.

I don't think it'd work. The theme doesn't appeal to a lot of people (including myself). I think they need to do more with the WWoS though. It seems so neglected, and it could be really fun for people who are into sports.

I think they should just add more reason to visit Wide World of Sports. An interactive attraction or two, museum style sports games, hall of fame/sports history pavilion, something with EA Sports. There is potential but not enough to build an entire park.

I for one would look forward to the NFL Simulator ride. They could use the Body Wars simulator ride, as it was about as bumpy as I imagine a game would be. Then every few seconds, they could knock you in the head with something until you can't remember your children's names.
There is a lot of science in sports so I could see something in Epcot that explains how to throw a curve ball or how changing you grip on golf club changes the flight of the ball. There is a show on TV all about sport science and they make it fun to learn. Kids would love hands on. Just have to make it safe to keep the lawyers happy.

What about the possibility of a Sports Training center for team building events. Climbing walls, Obstacle course, Race, mud, etc. The mud runs have become quite popular. Maybe they can hold an event like that once or twice a year.
