Is a sports-themed park a possibility?

We used to have a sports themed park near Disney in Haines City many moons ago- Boardwalk and Baseball. Coasters, midway type rides and a large ball field. It was opened for exactly 3 whole years- it is now a Best Buy/Target mall :(

Wasn't it Circus World before that? I was really young and my memory could be off.

I don't know about an entire land...but maybe an attraction based in downtown disney with sports science stuff...and then a ride using tech like Harry Potter to simulate an NFL game or something like that (put you in the play, etc).

I'm just curious how you'd even build it. Aside from activities WWoS already has like stadiums for watching teams train, what kind of attractions would a sports-themed park even include? A bowling alley? It just doesn't seem like a good theme for designing attractions around. Not enough narrative or fantasy for a compelling theme park.

This is my thinking as well. Yes, you could skin a bunch rides with different team colors and logos, but that is not a themed experience even if expensive and ornate.

Yep. We were passholders for HBJ parks...including Boardwalk & Baseball. As tweens we thought it was the cat's meow...moreso than Disney was for us at that time. We were seasonal passholders at WDW, too. We'd beg to go to B&B!

I don't know if it's already been addressed on this thread, (I only read the first 3 pages) when the yearly ESPN Weekend Event was discontinued, that should pretty much sum up their approach to sports. Which is too bad, I attended a few of them, and it was always fun and a good draw.

Would not happen. Disney has put the sports complex there for a reason, for the sports people. It just would not work as a park. And like stated earlier, there are so many things in just the US dedicated to sports, that we really don't need any more for it at Disney.

In a word...no

As a theme it works on the resort level but from an overall ride, attraction, chachki point of view I really see no way to pull it off. I for one honestly could care less about a sports themed park but my evaluation was done as impartially as possible.
