Is a room upgrade worth it?

Heyo! So for my upcoming May 25 western caribbean cruise I've got a Standard Inside Stateroom booked. It's just my boyfriend and I going, but I've started wondering if I should try to upgrade to maybe something with a balcony? I don't even know if something like that would be available for upgrade at this point. I'm hoping those of you who cruise often could give your two cents... Is a room with a balcony worth the extra $? (In my case, the extra DVC points!)

It is likely a moot point. Cabins available to be booked using DVC points typically sell out very far in advance. Since you are sailing in less than 4 months, I would think there aren't any upgrades (through DVC) available. You can always call MS and check. Also, when you check in at the port you can ask if any upgrades are available. You would pay the price difference in cash, not points, if you go this route.

I would never discourage a verandah, they're awesome. But the inside rooms on the Fantasy are nothing to sneeze at. The Virtual Portholes are awesome. I would recommend that you go for at least a category 10 so you'll have split bath. But other than that, if it's a lot more points, you may be just fine!

That's great! I love when I'm wrong as long as it means someone got what they wanted! Which deck are you on? We've had verandahs on the Dream on decks 8 and 9.

We got the porch (I'm Texan, I have a hard time with Verandah :D) this time. With the kids sail free promotion we thought it would be a nice change. Although... I am worried we wont be able to go back. Our first cruise on NCL was an inside cabin with some light that came under the door, the next time we went with a window in Alaska because it was Alaska. Next cruise we had to get a window because we didn't want to be back inside. So, you see how I can see a problem developing. :)

You are so right. It is soooo hard to go back after you've had a "porch". My parents are already lamenting the fact that we're all in oceanviews for the Med cruise this summer.

I tried to go back and they would not let me :)

The first two cruises were verhandah rooms. On the last one, I booked a porthole room because we wanted one of the front facing portholes on the front of the Dream. We had one one of those rooms booked and then we had to change dates. When we changed dates we went into GTY status and they ended up upgrading us to a verandah room anyway.

I guess they want me to be in a verandah room :)

I know it sounds awful but I'm almost afraid to not have a "porch". Hubby loves running out there sporadically all day. I think he'd hurt himself dashing smack into a porthole wall. If you ever see a Disney ship with a strange guy pressing his face to a porthole window licking the glass and crying that's my old man after my failed experiment. LOL!

Lol! Too funny :p After what you, @Disneyfalcon and @Phonedave and @5thGenTexan all have to say, I'm afraid I won't be able to go back either! I can see myself now, waking up in the morning and lounging on the verandah with a tea.... Sounds too good to be true.

Be sure to put out your breakfast card the night before and your tea can be delivered to your door at the time you specify. It's just a short walk out to your own "porch".... :)
