Is a Birthday still special at Disney?

Oh please tell me anyone that they are still giving the placemats at Chef Mickeys and that this was a fluke???
We have done Chef Mickeys for my oldest daughters bday for the past 8 yrs and always got a placemat...Last year they changed to a green placemat, still cute.
But this year we'll be celebrating both our girls bdays there and alll my 5 year old keeps saying is"when she goes to chef mickeys for her bday she'll be getting her own placemat"...... Anyone know???

We specifically asked our server about the placemat and she stated that because of the new celebration, they don't do the placemats anymore. Also we didn't have any confetti at our table either. We're going back to WDW for my wife's birthday in Sept but won't be going back to Chef Mickey's -- not just because of the placemat, it just didn't seem as cool anymore.

Well thats just crappy!!!! Guess I'll be dropping them a line....Not that it does much! They still do the "celebrate " song right?? With the twirling of the napkins??? God they "did" the best celebration for bdays!

We celebrated our son's birthday in 2008 and recieved many well wishes and a cupcake at Hoop Dee Doo Review. I think part of the reason you're not getting as much now (freebies and the like) is that when people get their birthday button they wear it for their entire trip and this increases the number of people in the parks who have the birhtday pins to quite a large number. When the CM's see so many birthday pins on any given day, I'm sure it loses some of the special meaning becasue they know that this is happening. I may be wrong about this but just my two cents.

I went yesterday for my birthday and the attention is great! You get a happy birthday pin that allows almost all cm that can see the pin to tell you happy birthday, you get people to sing you happy birthday and you get to meet people who share your birthday(i think that's cool). i recommend it!
