Iraqi Soccer

They won again! Ok, it's great but something's not right. The Iraqi Olympic soccer team should not be doing this. When they beat Portugal the other day, I thought "wow, who would have thought!" It was amazing! It seemed like the occasional fluke so good for them. But now they've won another game and I'm getting suspicious. For an inferior soccer team that shouldn't even have qualified for the Olympics, they're now 2-0. Something's up. Are these teams letting them win? Because I find it really hard to believe they could do this. :veryconfu

So all other countries show no concern whatsoever with the Olympics and that allows for a country like Iraq to stomp on them? Wow. And USA failed to even qualify. Go Iraq! :lol:

I am very happy for the Iraqis and am proud that my country played a part in making a trip to the Olympics possible for a country that used to live in fear. Iraqis, GO FOR THE GOLD!!!!

Very few of the larger footballing nations send a serious team to the Olympics - the players won't take time out from their paid jobs to take part in what is seen by them as a joke competition.

I totally agree. Freedom is a wonderful thing. Too bad so many folks take it for granted. I'm just glad the Iraqi people now know what it's like to be free. What they do with it is up to them.

While I agree with your sentiment, I'm not sure how "free" I would call a country that is besieged almost daily by evil and misguided souls armed with bullets and bombs who believe that average citizens are as legitimate a target as armed soldiers. They may be free in name, but if they can't even walk outside to go to the store without wondering if they'll come home, is that freedom? I'm glad that Saddam Hussein is no longer able to kill and torture his own people; unfortunately, it seems that any number of little Saddams are all too determined to keep a spirit of fear and oppression alive in Iraq.

It is a shame that there are evil people in this world, but that is a reality. That is what we (the U.S.A and U.K.) are attempting to do, rid the world of terrorism and tyranny. Eventually, good shall triumph over evil, how long that takes depends on what happens November 2, 2004. Americans have the power to "stay the course" or take huge steps backward.
