I don't use either one, but I'd venture to say that it may not be all that unusual for a non-Mac fanboy to still prefer an iPhone. Consider that a Mac is essentially a personal computer repackaged as a consumer electronics device. The best way I can explain it is to say that it's not for me because as a software guy, a computer is something different than a Mac. Macs have restrictions on things you can do that computers don't have.

A phone, on the other hand, is a consumer electronics device. The kinds of restrictions imposed by Apple make more sense for a phone than for a computer.

Having said that, I for one don't ever see myself with an iPhone. If I knew that there was a smartphone with an open source operating system that I could develop my own software for, which there is in Android, then I'd want it, no matter how unlikely it is that I will ever write my own app. But I'm sure I'm not the typical user, and certainly not the typical iPhone user.

Agreed!!! :sohappy:

I had this same debate 2 weeks ago and I did about 2 weeks of research before choosing. I decided to go with the Droid x. Part of the reason I really wanted the iPhone was because of the huge selection of apps available. I did not want the iPhone b/c of AT&T.

What I figured out is they are basically equals and it is just a matter of preference. I even went to consumer report and one was rated 75 and the other was 76. I felt like the more research I was doing I was getting more confused. Most of the articles I read were just simply one person's opinion.

So I just made a decision that I would go with the droid X. Which I got at an excellent price. I figured since I would be on Verizon, if I absolutely hated the phone and verizon did end up getting the iphone next year I could just get a new phone. But, it has been two weeks and I absolutely love my phone. I am very happy with my decision and feel like it was the right one for me. I am also already overwhelmed with all the apps available on android, and I am sure there will be many more to come.

Good luck with your decision.
