iPad Mini

I have an iPad 2 and I love it. I also have an iPhone. I also have a laptop which honestly gets used way less since I received the iPad (as a gift - we're way too broke for that lol). But I can't help but look at the iPad Mini and think that's essentially what the iPhone/iPod Touch was. Yes I know it's slightly bigger but the second I read "iPad Mini" on the news it's what I thought. :)
The Surface might and I stress might get me to get a tablet as it looks like it might be able to actually replace my laptop. There is no way I will buy at launch, but depending on how it turns out I might get the second generation of it.

its priced wrong IMO... apple priced to protect its own products instead of pricing to the market.
Apple price things that they know they can sell huge numbers of. People said the iPad was over-priced - they just sold 100 million of them.

I think that's really the key. They KNOW it's priced higher than every other tablet out there but they also know that it doesn't matter and that they'll still sell record numbers of them. If I ran a company and knew I could get away with charging 2 or 3 times more for my products and they'd sell like that, well duh! It's all about the bottom line.

While I would tend to agree that most Apple fans will buy whatever Apple produces at whatever price Apple wants to, there does seem to be a little more negative feedback on the Mini. From a technology standpoint the Mini is nothing special. Apple's current tech feather in their cap, the retina display, is not present. About the only thing I can see that the Mini has an edge in over comparable Droid tablets are a good number of apps designed explicitly for a tablet sized screen vs a phone app be stretched to fit. It just leaves me scratching my head that the Samsung Note 2 has better everything hardware and cost wise, can make calls, and it is laughed at.

I still have no doubt that they will sell a bazillion of them and when the Mini 2 comes out next year with a retina display the same people will line up to buy it all over again.

Heading for the great escape.
Not a fan of Apple products. The current Mrs Sak has announced the desire for a tablet, however given all shell do is go on Facebook, read Twie gossip and post pictures of cupcakes I may purchase her a Kindle Fire for her xmas. The Mini is still too overpriced, and I have never been stylish.

The price of the original was considered high compared to other computing options - not necessarily similar items - and history has proven the original iPad price was hard to reach by other vendors. That is a different situation compared to the one with the mini - which is moving into a space that is pre-populated with competition that has already established what is obtainable as a price point. Adding to that, the mini is very familiar to its competition.. with the main differentiator being the Apple EcoSystem.

In effect.. apples and oranges. No pun intended :)

That is the key point for many. Apple has in my opinion by far the best user experience through the interface, the apps, the app store, and the physical support of the brick and motor stores. The Apple devices are also a long way ahead in terms of fit and finish.

Well if you are willing to pay a 50% premium for it.. and devs are willing to pay a 30% tax to be part of it.. it's clear why my Apple stock is worth so much :)
