"Inverted Simulation Attraction" for Disney?

Ride & Show Engineering in California has developed a new ride vehicle for dark rides, shown below,

"The present invention relates generally to the field of amusement rides wherein patrons seated in cars are moved along a track, the cars are suspended from the track, and the car is pointed in various directions to view specific portions of the attraction. Optionally, a motion base positioned between the car and the track also allows for the simulation of movement, for example, the simulation of flight in various directions."

This is an improvement over existing ride vehicles that, as Ride & Show points out,

"... have no ability to impart rotational movements in the yaw, pitch or roll directions to simulate movement or direct a patron's viewpoint toward desired scenery."

I would think that this would be a great upgrade to an existing dark ride like Peter Pan. The improved mechanics, smoother motions, increased degrees of freedom, and simulated "flight" would all be major pluses. But I see that they are promoting this to Disney and Universal. Still, I think this would be a better fit for Disney.

This looks like their closest attempt to creating their version of a Kuka without infringing. It can pass by ride scenes, or projected walls - much like Forbidden Journey. I imagine it can't thrash quite like the Kuka, but otherwise it provides a similar ride concept, except for being suspended instead of floor-mounted.

scrap DHS Carsland and lets build Planesland instead... this ride system could be used to fly with the characters from planes, starting with a dark ride type thing opening up onto a soarin' type screen that lets us 'fly' through the sky.... outside Cars could be incorporated - maybe with a kiddie ride based on a car track and maters junkyard jamboree - no clone for Florida, new attractions based on NEW franchises, and we all live happily ever after!

... we could even throw in a souvenier cup, highly themed restroom and maybe a clause that AP's can't use the attraction without paying extra!

oh..... and princess themed attraction!

exactly...this is the first patent i ve seen that i think screams avatar

To date, the only things we can assume about Avatar are based on the plans that were leaked last year. And those plans showed a 4-theater Soarin-like attraction, and a boat ride.

This specific ride apparatus does not correlate to anything we've seen or heard about supposed and completely rumored plans of anything Avatar-related in the parks.

And like a broken record, I'll say what I say in every "new patent" thread....

Just because Disney filed a new patent does not necessarily mean it has an intended use. They continue to move forward with R&D on anything and everything their mad scientists can think of, then put all the inventions in a library. That way, if WDI, TDA, TDO or any Team Disney [International] comes up with an attraction that could use a specific type of vehicle, they won't have to delay design or construction while they wait for a ride apparatus.

Plus, they ensure someone else doesn't invent it first. They sort of lost out on the Kuka system by not doing anything proactive about it.

yep and i agree with you and have read all those other posts you have said in the past about patents... i was just making the comment this would go well with an avatar ride that this patent looks like it would be perfect for an avatar ride:)

Figure 2 even shows restrooms. Seems like there's more to this than just concept...

*dashes off and patents same thing excepting for the crappers*

Reminds me of Horizons.

I, too, suffer from the mental condition where everything reminds me of Horizons. I hear that Disney is marketing a pill for this condition.

C'mon, you know something! I can tell by the sound of your 'voice'. Spill it!:)

Thank god I'm not the only one hearing all your voices in my head.

So, what you're saying is that Disney is building and improving the popular StormRiders attraction from TDS and bringing it to EPCOT for the new Meteorology pavilion?
