My wife and I are planning on going on a Disney Cruise in January 2013. We will be on the Dream. Is there internet access on board? Free wifi? How fast is it?

Thanks!

When we went to the interent cafe on the Magic earlier this month, we were going to be charged there for the service as well. And the connection was not fast in the least. Even trying to get onto the home page to connect was a lengthy ordeal. In the end we decided to pass on it....

Here's a last minute question aboout WiFi on the Dream. Can you share WiFi time amongst multiple devices or will each require a unique ID? Are smartphones able to connect to the WiFi service or is it limited to laptops only?

Finally got an anwser from DCL after speaking to a Supervisor and getting a return call from an IT guy.

You can share the WiFi key across multiple devices.

You do not need a laptop to initiate the Wifi service.

I'm sorry, I missed your question. You definitely can share, we have many times. I have also initiated with my ipad. :)

Here's the details on WiFi from the August 5th Disney Dream cruise.

The flyer in my stateroom was very old because it still listed "hot spots" as available in the "open areas of Decks 9 and 10" which most certainly are not "open areas" on the Dream.

To use the WiFi system you must connect to the "Disney-Internet-Guest" wireless network. This step is nowhere to be found in the documentation and not an obvious step most people would take since in most places there's only one WiFi network available. On the Dream I found six private DLC wirless networks and a couple more from users with ad hoc networks enabled on their devices.

Once you've established a network connection you open your internet browser. The wireless provider setup page should automatically load or you can put "Mycounter.com" (without quotes) in the address bar to initiate the connection.

You enter your first name, last name, stateroom number and date of birth for the person the reservation was made in then click continue. The next page will ask you to chose the password you want to use then click continue. The next page will let you choose your plan then click Purchase to start the clock.

My recommendation is to leave the login page open since it provides a counter and Logout button which makes stopping the service very easy. If you close the counter page, you have to put "Logout.com"(without quotes) in the address bar to end the session.

Now, this was quite easy on my Windows 7 laptop. Not so easy on my Samsung Galaxy SII smartphone. Using the browser to connect and disconnect was quite a chore even though I'm pretty fast on the virtual keyboard. I only used my smartphone once to update a client then stuck with the laptop.

I purchased the 100 minute plan for $40.00 and found that connecting to check email on gmail in the morning and evening left me with about 7 minutes when I departed the boat.
