Interesting New Rumor on Space Mountain

Do you really love the lamp? Or are you just saying that?

Do you think they will change the actual track layout at all? I think they kept the one at Disneyland about the same. My biggest complaint regarding Space Mountain is the lack of interesting movement through the ride. It seems like most of it is just turning.

left....left....right....right.....DROP!....left.....left....right....right...left...etc

I want to feel some more drops or something.

Merf, Haiku us again.. I think it's always welcome.. and ignore the "fuddy-duddies"...

Yeah, I called the haters fuddy-duddies... That's the BIG ammo!! HA HA!

I think the moderators need to step in when you start calling people fuddy-duddies. It's very, very hurtful....:animwink:

And honestly, if we have to get rumours in the form of haikus, it's still worth it. Good info is still good info in any format.:)

When I saw "Mission 2" I got pretty excited thinking that maybe they were doing the DLP ride which looks pretty sweet to me. I don't know about building dimensions but would that be doable without a ground up rebuild? Either way, I think that's the way to go, if you're gonna do it. To rebuild it as basically the same ride seems kind of pointless. Do it up, do it to the new standards of coaster riders. Obviously, it doesn't have to be that extreme, but at least as good as RnR.

hm

MY thing is if they dont remove some of the panels how will they get the ride pieces out and into the building? Can a crane even fit in the building. IF they have to use fork lifts and cherry pickers wouldnt that take a long time to deconstruct and build the new system?

Imo, I hope that this is just what it is, and nothing more than a rumor. I really dont see it smart to gut SM and possibly change it into a cheap short coaster similar to Rrcn. If that happened, I would be upset, and they would have to come out with some amazing rides at all 4 parks to keep me coming back.

But besides that, if it is true, and its a quality coaster as far as effects and stuff, and the ride time is not negatively altered, I may like the newer version. But overall, I dont think SM needs to be gutted, I think all it needs is newer stuff in the line and post show and some newer effects on the ride itself and maybe smoothening the track. But thats it. Imo, Sm is a classic like Pirates, IASW, and HM. When they re imagineered those, they didnt gut them or make them shorter or longer, they were just subtly enhanced. And thats what Im looking for them to do with SM. If not, then, I guess Ill know when my ap is up.

We already have Rock n Rollercoaster...why would we want basically the same thing with different theme? I want no part of it. I hate Vekoma loopers!

I think they should keep it relatively the same...just make it smooth, dark, add a soundtrack, more effects, and have one side more thrilling than the other so people can choose.

Any idea how those panels were attached? From the finished pictures it almost looks there is some sort of poured in bond beam around the top and bottom.

From what my father said, the outer ring has a beveled curb. When he saw them setting panels, the panels were picked up, the bottoms were stabbed into the curb and the top was lowered down to rest onto the top cap which was notched to accept the panels tops that had "pegs" to fit into the notch. They are U-shaped panels and the underside of all the panels were flat so they made a smooth surface when done to do the projections of the star and planets inside.

So theoretically the panels could be lifted up from the top and be removed. This would of course be dependant on weather the pin connection at the top has not corroded into place.

strange choice of words - i think they probably more intended to state that panels could be removed rather then literally lifting the whole roof off!

we shall see - i do hope its true - tomorrow land really needs the attention!

i hope it is more like dlrp space mountain, for a 90's coaster it is pretty immersive.... but just a fast coaster with no inversions.

Okay, this is a little off topic, but my question is if they do a total refurb of SM where does that leave TTA.

TTA is my favorite ride in Tomorrowland and I would be very upset if I couldn't ride because of some other refurb.

Hopefully they will be able to just put up walls and keep TTA "people moving".

I will love to see a good refurb of SM.

They aren't removing the top, nor will they be gutting the entire attraction. There will be upgrades and replacements for track segments as well as structural reinforcements to better suit upgrades coming to the ride itself. The current layout isn't going anywhere either, so no reason to fret.

Or jump for joy as I was kind of looking forward to a total gutting.

Preservation of the layout is one of the goals of this refurbishment. Enhancements past that are a little more scarce, mostly relating to the cars and the exit queue. The track will only be reinforced (and replaced if necessary) to better suit the new weight of the trains.

With the same track is it safe to assume that the single row seating will remain?

Don't you all think you are being a little hard on Merf? I agree it was a little out the ordinary way to reveal a rumor, but he did tell what it was. Besides, is there anythinfg wrong with building a little anticipation in trying to figure out what is rumored? If he were to stop providing us with the information he acquires, we would all learn alot less about the place we love so much.

Seriously, get over it people! merf did nothing wrong!

Yes... because usually when I get a new couch... or fridge... I just take the roof off my house, and hire a crane to lower it in... instead of measuring everything... and bringing it through doors.:hammer: Silly Screamscape.:hammer::hammer:

We always do that for a new bed... :lookaroun

Any idea how many speakers will be included in this addition?

Couple per seat.

Also:
As earlier mentioned, no, they will not be taking the top off the mountain.
The layout looks like it will stay pretty much the same.
New Tomorrowland themeing will finally reach that corner of TL.
Limited audio testing has already begun using some existing music.
