Int. Airport to WDW

Hi from Germany,

i will visit WDW during the first 2 Weeks of October.
I now check the rates for the transfer from Int. Airport to "my" Port orleans RS resort. I guess Mears Transportation isn't bad.
Anyone any experiences with mears transportation? I see i have to book in advance. Is it serious?
How much is a taxi from Int.AP to PORS?

Thank you and best wishes
Michael

I wouldn't take a taxi.

I'd do Mears if that's what you want.

I would suggest using one of the sponsors on the forum? Yourride?? I'm too tired to look for it right now. It might be your best bet.

Perhaps it would help if you knew the differences between the Mears Shuttle and a town car.

If you are using Mears:
You will get your baggage and go to the Mears area on the lower level of the airport. Present your vouchers, and you will be told to wait for the next bus. (Depending upon the demand at the time you arrive, it could be a full sized bus or a mini-bus that seats about 15.)

Again, depending upon the crowds at the time you check-in, you could wait anywhere from 10 minutes to an hour. There is no way to predict this, and it is totally the luck of the draw.

Because Mears is mass transportation, you will probably drop people off at other resorts before you get to POR.

The cost for this, round trip is around $30 per person.

If you are using a towncar:
You will get your baggage. Waiting for you at the baggage carousel will be a towncar driver holding a sign with your name on it. The driver will meet you at the curb and put your luggage in the trunk of the car.

If you have requested it ahead of time, you can make a stop at a grocery store for snacks, film, water, etc. before you get to the resort.

The towncar services will provide car seats, if necessary, and if requested ahead of time.

There will be just your party in the car, so you drive directly to POR.

With a tip, it is around $100 ($80 for the ride and $10 tip each way). This price is for the CAR, (not per person) which will seat 4 comfortably.

There is nothing wrong with Mears. It is just a less personal form of ground transportation. Many people prefer the privacy and direct service of a towncar.

I have used Mears 6 or 7 times and I have never waited more than 15 minutes to board a bus.

Limo services charge by the trip. (limited number of people of course)
Mears charges by the person.

So if you have more than 3 people in your party it might be cheaper to take a Town Car service.

What time you arrive might be another factor.

Check-in time at most Disney Resorts is 3:00PM

If you arrive at Orlando International Airport on an early flight, you have time to kill so you might want to take Mears as it is a little cheaper (for less than 4 people) and takes a little longer to get to your resort as they make stops at alot of resorts. I don't mind this at all because that allows me to check out the other resorts to see what they look like.

If you arrive on an afternoon flight, you might want to take a Town car. They are waiting for you in the baggage claim area then take you straight to your resort. This allows you to get there faster, check in..and go play in the parks faster.

It's not always about money...sometimes it's the convieninces that matter.:animwink:

We now have mixed feelings about Yourride. We used them in March with no problem but this past trip we had some issues. We requested a carseat for our 2 year old so we didn't have to lug ours. We get there and my wife double checks with the driver about the carseat ... he doesn't have one in his car. He was able to get one from a Tiffany Towncar driver. Ok, fine we are on our way. 10 days later for the trip back to the airport, a different driver shows up and guess what, no carseat again, but this time no one to bum a carseat from. I'm less than pleased to put it nicely. The driver leaves and we call for a cab. 20 minutes later, (right when the cab gets there) the driver shows up again with a car seat he bought off of somebody at a different hotel. He dropped us off about as far away from our airline desk as possible leaving us to haul our luggage and 2 year old in the stroller from one end of the terminal to the other. We made our flight.
We have not yet called Yourride to complain but will on Monday.

Thank you s much for your help.
Still one question left: what about a taxi, how much will that be? isn't a taxi the most comfortable way to go to a resort after a 10 hour flight?
Thanks
Michael

I have found Tiffany's and Mears to be about the same price if you have 2 or more in your party. There is a $5 difference (one way). To me the extra $5 is worth the convenience and you get to stop at the grocery to boot.

Yellow Shoes has it right on the money!!! Plus if you book the town car you know it is there for you, as opposed to waiting for a taxi!! Have a great time!!! Belle

When we fly, we always use Mears to get to the resort and to get back to the airport. I do believe Disney may send you a coupon for a discount with Mears. At least, we always do! So, maybe call Disney and ask about it.

i still perfer renting a car. on the budget rent a car site they have a deal for $159 for a week. usaually what we do is drive to the hotel and pretty much leave the car in the parking lot. we also use it to go to universal. that way you have a choice, you can always accomidate your own schedule. sometimes a rental car costs alot more, but we always find it well worth it.

also, as much as I love Disney's transportation system, driving your own car is a lot faster, just for geting around wdw.

I always take a taxi from the airport to the Walt Disney World resort. It normally costs around $50 each way including tip. A taxi is much more relaxing than waiting for a cramped Mears shuttle to take you to your hotel.
