my co worker and I were talking...about what we're going to have for Thanksgiving.

my family does a traditional meal -- pumpkin tomato bisque t start, followed by a whole roasted turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, home made cranberry sauce, some sort of sweet potatoes, two or three vegetables and/or salad, and numerous desserts including pumpkin pie.

my feind told me she's only cooking for four adults and an infant, not her whole clan this year. for her family, it's all about lasagna and eggplant parmigiana, and "the turkey is just ....there". so she's thinking of eithe rdoing a turkey breast or maybe a chicken, or maybe just the lasagna and the eggplant.

so, what's everyone else having?

It will only be my husband, my son, and myself.

Turkey breast (big enough for leftovers)
Stuffing
Sweet Potato
Green Beans
Cranberry
Maybe Mashed Potato with gravy
Dinner Rolls

Pumpkin Pie
Apple Pie
Ice Cream/Whipped Cream for above

When my parents were alive, I always made turnip, peas with pearl onions, and had a complete turkey, because they liked drumsticks.

I've had all holiday meals at my house since
1. my parents moved to Florida in 1989
2. my mother gave me her antique china platter because it "looked so nice with my good china" I didn't realize that whoever owned it, had to fill it.

We go to my parents house still. My mom makes:
Turkey
Fried Chicken
Mashed Potatoes
The best homemade noodles EVAH
Homemade dressing, with bread she bakes ahead of time
Rolls (again made from scratch)
Pumpkin pie
Apple pie
Pecan pie
We bring veggies and additional desserts, do all the setting up and cleaning afterwards. I'm taking a vegetable casserole, kind of like green bean casserole, but with california blend veggies. :slurp: There should be 20-25 of us this year.

mashed potaotes
squash
sweet potato
green bean casserole
coleslaw
cranberry sauce (canned and homemade)

More desserts than people sometimes...pies,cake, and Death by Chocolate

We all bring some of the dinner - I do homemade yeast rolls and 2 or 3 desserts. This year there should be 22 of us I think. I love Thanksgiving!

Wow! That's a big group!

My three other sibs are 10+ years older than me, so they're already grandparents! :hammer: My parents' basement is somewhat finished (and cooler), so a lot of us head down there to eat. The kiddies have toys down there they can play with too.

I can't believe that it took eight posts to see green bean casserole show up! Yum -- and a great Thanksgiving meal tradition! Simple and yet delicious.

Another simple and delicious item that I often make is Chocolate Eclair Cake. Yum!!! I will be making that, as well as green bean casserole, for the big family gathering.

Great thread!
Very interesting, reading the different menus.
We'll have a smaller group this year, we should actually be able to fit everyone at just one table!
We consist of 5 adults Me and my wife (42-44), my Mother and Father-in-law (74-75) and my Sister-in-law (44). My niece who is in High School (17) and my two daughters ages 7 and 9. My other niece is spending this Thanksgiving at the Polynesian starting her internship at WDW. She used to bring her "little sister" from the big brother/sister program and a few friends whose families don't bother celebrating the holiday, which is why were less people this year.
This year we are having our normal traditional menu consisting of:
Roasted 15 lb Butterball turkey (Hen)
Sage dressing, (bread, celery, onion, egg, chicken broth)
Turkey gravy, (made with the drippings from the turkey)
Green bean casserole
Whipped potatoes
Corn nibblets
Candied Sweet potatoes (brown sugar and butter)
Cranberry sauce
Dinner rolls
Butter
Pumpkin and Apple pie, with regular whipped cream (I've been looking for the chocolate flavor, but the stores around me aren't carrying it this year , my kids favorite.
Hot apple cider (mulling spices/Apple Cider)
Milk
Wine (Rhine)
Champagne (Korbel)
We'll have assorted appetizers as well.

Going to my in-laws on Thursday. They usually have 35+ people each year.

My mother-in-law makes a turkey, ham, mashed potatoes, stuffing. Everyone else brings something (various side dishes, vegetables, pies, etc.) Last year, on the dessert table, I counted 8 different kinds of pie (and a pumpkin mousse, which was spectacular).

Since my siblings and I always go to in-laws on Thursday, the past few years my mother has had her Thanksgiving dinner the following Sunday. It makes it much easier than having to eat at two places in the same day.

I can't wait, I am getting hungry already.

Since DD & I were at WDW last Thanksgiving, I was told in order to make up for it, I had to host this year!! There will be 16 of us, ranging from 5 to 79, with combined family and a couple neighborhood friends.

We're pretty traditional - turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoe casserole, corn, peas, homemade noodles, deviled eggs, relish tray, cranberry salad, homemade rolls, and apple & pumpkin pies with real whipped cream.
