Great Points. This kind of makes me think of when Rock N Roller Coaster opened. We were there for the last day of soft openings where the attraction was not talked about by the CM's alot. But the next day we went to the park (maybe 2 days later) the ride was on the front of the park maps with other different advertising. But it was (I believe) a month later that Aerosmith was there for the "grand opening". So maybe Disney is coining a new term with "previews" as being a time where it is open before the big "official grand opening" and not truely "soft openings". I am just a regular guest and am completely guessing here so PLEASE do not take my post here as anything but speculation and a little bit of wishful thinking :) .

Those are my thoughts exactly, in a far more concise post:) Hope we are right and it opens by August 1st:cool:

Someone posted that this video was up in a different thread.

Unfortunately, I'm pretty sure they'll be getting in trouble for posting it. It doesn't look like the type of video Disney would ever release to the public. Instead, it looks more like some clips edited together from a training video of some sort. Not great quality, or great editing.

Actually, the video was on the Walt Disney World Press Site and it does indicate it can be used for marketing and promoting the attraction. :D

Thanks CTXRover! I can't wait for the this ride to open! This video almost seems like it would be in one of Disney's Vacation Planning videos. When I was watching the clip I imagined background music and a narrator. Although I knew the outside was completed, I had no idea they were basically finished with the inside! Again, Great Video; I can't wait until August! :D

OK, my brother didn't know anything about M:S besides its basic concept, and he's now incredibly hyped just because of what he saw in theat video.

Is it me or the guy on the bottom right looked like he was about to faint?

I have to admit, the attraction does look interesting, and the Imagineers at least make it seems like it'll be very educational (definately more than Test Track). But this video also ilustrates my basic question about M:S: will it have multi-language tracks or subtitles? Because imagine you're traveling solo. You get to the attraction and you're gonna ride with three other Guests. Now, using the video, imagine the Guest responsible for the separation is foreign. I suppose the computer will eventually act on its own if the Guest doesn't act on time (so you don't crash your spaceship before you even began riding it). But you'll be one frustrated fella untill the computer does act, watching your time limit expire, "threatening" your mission, while the poor guy has no idea what the computer is asking him to do.

While I would imagine Disney will think of a system to make sure all guests understand what is going on in their native language, note that should guests fail to complete their given tasks during the ride, the computer will do it for them--Disney isn't going to let your space shuttle blow up if you screw up. I'm thinking the buttons flash when you are supposed to push them anyway--there was a definite sound effect in the video when the girl was to push the button. I am definitely glad they are calling this a mix of science and thrill--should be incredible, and seeing as most of us know just about nothing about space travel, educational!

It's Disney's "B-roll" footage for news media outlets... etc...

A "B-roll" is footage pre Produced and packaged for broadcasters and media organizations for use in broadcast news stories. The news outlet can then edit it and add there own V/O (voice over) :)

I am almost certain this is what was being filmed the other day... and not a commercial.

I love Disney I love Mission Space the queue is so beautifully visual and the ride looks amazing. I am convinced my engineering career will be at Walt Disney Imagineering now more than ever; however I have been trying to get the video again today and it's not working, anybody having that problem?

In my own mind, I still like to pretend that it will be open by June 29th. Yet I know there is no possible way but can't a boy dream? Anyway, I am still positive it will open BEFORE August 15th. Like everyone has said, media and guests will FLOOD the attraction on that day which defeats the purpose of a soft opening. Not to mention that every single news article I have read, except for Disney fan sites, have simply said it will open on August 15th. It seems to me that only WDWmagic, Laughing Place, and Mouseplanet are saying that it is a soft opening. It just wouldn't work to announce such a date. Imagine all the bad press it would get if it keeps breaking down on August 15th! I don't think Disney would risk it.

Exactly. Finally, someone understands my point. I, too, am certain this ride will be open by AT LEAST July 31st--June 29th does seem to be pushing it, though:) But, if that does end up the case, and you get to ride it--fantastic! That would only further ensure a great summer season for Disney--they have every reason to open this attraction early, and no reason to wait.

You can add WESH TV to that list. Disney has stated that August 15th is the soft opening. Period. That's what they call it, so that's what I'll call it.

This doesn't mean that they can't have a "soft" soft opening. :)

Yes, we believe everything we hear on Floridian news stations, like the ones reporting on April 21st that Disney officially was saying the ride would not open until the fall...I will take official Disney press releases over local news stations any day. The Press Release says "opening". I do not see this as a soft opening in the usual sense, but more of a preview period.

Well, they didn't pull the term out of thin air. Al Weiss himself called August 15th the soft opening date.

There's not really any sense in arguing this anyway. Who cares what the stages of opening are called? We both agree that there's a pretty good chance of an opening before then. :)

Haha. Right. And I plan to ride it between August 1st and 5th! :)
