Hi there, we will be over in Orlando between 2nd July - 16th July. I am sure it advisable to get some sort of insect repellant, can anyone recommend a good brand to buy in the UK? Also what kind of bugs are we likely to come across??

As we are staying in our own villa we have been advised to not leave rubbish bags too early before collection, as turkey buzzards scavenge from them? Is this right?

Cheers, Dan.

I've been all over Disney World in every month over the last few years. I've never had a problem with mosquitoes or flies of any kind. The only wildlife problem I've ever had was when those aggressive sea gulls in Frontierland swooped down and knocked the churro right out of my hands.

Thinking about it - I've only had bites on one out of 13 trips and that was last September after the hurricanes had thrown things out of whack, otherwise it's never been a problem for me.

Due to the heavy rain in the last month or so the mosquitoes are starting to come out. Here in south Florida the mosquitoe control ceter is reporting up 2000 calls a day. Not sure what the centrel Florida rain fall has been like. I would advise (Cutter brand pump spray), and the more (DEET) the better the repellent. As stated above i have never had a problem with the mosquitoes in Disney

We've never had a problem staying at WDW. They have an insect control program and spray regularly. I usually buy Off insect repellent with DEET for use at home here in NY and Cutter is also a good brand. Spray your clothes, shoes and exposed legs/arms,but be very careful of your face/eyes.

I would wait to pick some up until you arrive in Orlando. The local stores should have a good supply/variety.

When you put out the garbage make sure its in a covered container as you never know what type of animal will rummage thru it.

Sorry Dan, but you best bring a gun. The insects in Florida a big enough to
carry you away.

DEET is probably some of the best protection.
Personally I don't remember too much insect activity any time I've been to Orlando. Maybe it's true that drinking the water here in south Georgia and Florida (which can be a bit sulphurous) does help keep some of the buggies away :)

Yes they do, they spray regularly.

Good. Living in Wisconsin, we have very nasty mosquitoes. It will be nice to have a decrease in the number of bites while in Floriday.

I am NOT looking forward to the other bugs.. I hate bugs..
