Info on Imagination post-show...

Just got back from a absolutely wonderful WDW trip. Wanted to give you an update of what I saw during the Imagination Journey.

First off, I dislike this attraction in current form. I only wanted to ride because we were near EO. But, ALL the Kodak signs are now removed from the attraction (I did spot one or two towards the end). Since I was unfamiliar with the ride's post-show and the walls made me confused as we were leaving, I got lost. I noticed that one of the larger walled off section's door was accidentally left open. This was a section towards the middle of the room with the door located to the back. So, naturally I went through it. Sadly, NOTHING has changed behind the walls since I went last year. The section I got into was the one with the touch screen monitors and the multi-colored pipes. They were all still in tact with no changes. This is sad to me because this area has been walled off now for months.

Anybody have anything else they would like to add?

They aren't planning on changing the actual computers or look of the area that is walled off. They have been walled off because the programs on the computers are Kodak programs. New software for those computers are being developed but it takes time. The Kodak pull-out didn't give much notice so no program was ready take it's place on those computers.

Good management would have a plan for eventualities.

Pathetic.

I know..I know I am probably the only one that likes the ride now. But I also liked it back then too. I really miss the walking Piano that was on the floor.

So in other words what you are saying is, if your house got demolished by a tornado tomorrow your life wouldn't be interupted because you have another place to live with duplicate possesions?

It's a little different than that. They knew the contract was coming to an end and that Kodak wasn't renewing. They should have had arrangements made. This is poor show.

Actually they only had about a months notice. WDI was scrambling to make changes which is why you still see the Kodak name in a few places.

I don't know why we'd ever expect anything different. Think back to how long Spaceship Earth's post show was walled off after AT&T. It was definitely over a year.

I love when Raven proves people wrong.

Also, Disney realizes JII isn't getting much traffic. I'm sure they are thinking of new ideas. They likely have other things they are putting more focus on. Like a typical business, you can't do everything at once. They'll get to it, be patient. If you can't, then don't go as frequently. My family, and numerous other families I know can go every year, because we all enjoy Disney for what it is. No matter what, we all have an amazing time and we make great new memories. Things like walls in a post show, or a ride that has gone stale or any other minor thing doesn't bother us. I know many nitpick at many things on here, but be patient. Rides and attractions will get their updates eventually. If you feel they aren't fast enough for your standards, then don't go as much. Really quite simple. Otherwise, enjoy WDW.

Raven, you are comparing Disney's management as of late to a Disaster? I agree, that sounds about right.

And if mcjaco was a MULTI BILLION dollar company I don't think it would be all that bad.

Not trying to prove anyone wrong. Just getting the correct information out there because people always want to rip it to shreds before they actually know what the truth is. The reason I made the comment is because people expect Disney to have an immediate back-up of everything in case something is suddenly closed. No one can do that. So for people to call walls up in that area as "bad show" is simply rediculous. "Bad show" would be to take down the walls and putting out-of-order signs on them.

As you can see by my low post count I am an infrequent poster, but I am a daily reader. I felt compelled to post this AM. Honestly, the financial difficulties of Kodak have been well known for over a year. While formal notice may have only been given a month ago, someone should have been thinking along the line of what they would do to maintain high guest level experiences during the transition period by having an agreed up plan of action . Lots of walled off areas really don't fall into that category. A similar emergency contingency plan should exist I hope for GM sponsorship at TT.

I hope no one takes this as personal criticism as it truly is not meant to be and I enjoy reading all those posts here regularly. It is my best connect back to the World.

That is a wonderful thought in a perfect world. The truth as someone in the IT industry for 10+ years is that even at very large, well run companies, the time/budget for "maintenance" work is one of the near bottom priorities. Just on top of that would be work to "replace" outdated systems (most major firms I've been in still to some extent rely on Mainframe / Cobol that has been outdated for 20/30 years or more). Highest priority would go to developing something "new" that a manager / management could tout as a value add to the company. No manager gets ahead by saying "look, we developed something to backup/replace a system that was working already", even if that system has been teetering on the brink of collapse for years/decades. Just my observations based on what industry experience I have.

Add to that that nearly most software systems of any magnitude takes at LEAST 6 months / 1 year of development and testing before it rolls out, and you may be in for a long look at the walls.

No, contracts state how long it'll run. Good management would have a plan in place should the contract run out without a resigning. They didn't have that in place, and with Kodak's financial woes, it should have come as no surprise that there was a good chance they'd pull out. Sorry, bad management plan in place for this case.

I fail to see any proof.

Please send your billions to me.

And if you were a leader in theme park attractions, I'd think you'd spend a little more time making sure you had even small items like this up to snuff.

Walls up for expansion, refurbs is one thing. Putting walls up because you don't have software ready to go on an attraction that probably was not going to be renewed by a sponsor is entirely different. It's the same attraction. Surely they had some input into the software when they worked with Kodak.
