*RUMOR ALERT*

Do NOT jump down my throat, this is purely rumor right now.

Ok, now that's out of the way, here we go.

While in class today, my professor (who is an ex-President at WDW) told me that Disney is looking into building a park in India after Shanghai get's going in 2008.

We're still waiting for more details, and he's doing what he can as well for us, so stay tuned!

The last I saw was that the Shanhai park was to start construction in 2008 and be finished by 2012?

Correct. That's what I've heard. But this same professor also stated that they'd like to have it OPEN by 2008. So I guess we'll have to wait and see for official dates.

Design and construction in 2 years? I doubt that's possible. They'll need 2 years just for the design, site location, permits, red tape, etc.

in the third world, most red tape and permit requirements can be bypassed with a healthy bribe... which is something I would not put beyond the reach of Disney.

That being said, I doubt this will happen, for the sole reason that everyone that moves to Orlando and makes contacts with Disney, not matter how high ranking they are, will believe every little thing that is told to them. Meaning, Scottie... your professor, albeit how close his ties are to the mouse, it full of it.

Not sure if I'm able to say or not. Let's just say he's a very knowing man.

Rob can attest (?) to that.
Why wouldn't you be able to say. If he is a professor we could find out his name if you just told us what school you go to and what class it was. It's already public info.

I can vouch for the soundness of your sources, but I still doubt this very much, and you know my more specific reasons Scott.

I wouldnt think they would build a park in India.Disney channel is not doing as well as they had hoped in that country which is lagging behind other kids networks.Im sure after seeing the results of a Disney enterprise there they would choose another country.

Who the heck wants to go to Shanghai? Not I nor anyone else I know. And if I were to go to, say, Shanghai, or Paris, or Tokyo, or Hong Kong, I would go there for the rich cultural history. I can get Disney here.

don't forget Korea

I thought Korea was considered as well.

Also, someone asked "who the heck wants to go to Shanghai?" Oh , I don't know maybe the billion or so folks in China?! WTH? lol. These foreign parks aren't being built for U.S., but for 'other people' in 'other lands'. You know, that great big expanse outside of the u.s.?

That's not a bad move. Business wise that's the only direction Disney should be heading.

Not that I would advise it...but from a business standpoint...

Directly from the Epcot "rebuild all the old stuff that Grizz wants" fund...
I knew you would say that. I always appreciate you nice and friendly attitude on these forums

And to the subject...
I wonder if these parks will all be built and designed within a short period of time or over a course of five-six-eight years... will this be another fatten up/slim down of Walt Disney Imagineering?

I'm sure they increase their ranks as needed and then they will need to decrease once the project is complete.

I think that opening up all these Disney parks around the world is a stupid idea. The more there are, the less special it'll be. Let the billion or so people in China hop a boat to Tokyo Disney.
