Hey Everyone,
I went to Universal today, and as I went through the toll to park, I was given a slip of paper with some new rules and regulations on it. Here's what it says:
Welcome to Universal Orlando!
For your safety, we have increased our security procedures and ask for your understanding and cooperation.
  • Coolers are not permitted in the parks.
  • No outside food or drinks may be brought in.
  • All bags, backpacks or packages will be inspected prior to entering our Parks.
  • We recommend you leave unnecessary articles in your car and secure valuables in your trunk.
  • The following items are not permittedin any Universal Orlando Resort: any type of weapon, alcoholic beverages, illegal drugs, large duffle bags, folding chairs and large umbrellas.
Thank you for your cooperation! Please enjoy your visit.

I remember going to Universal a few years ago and they were inspecting the bags then.

I'm not sure if there are any new rules/regulations, but that slip is probably new just to remind everyone.

Universal has been checking bags since it became common practice after 9/11. They have a baggage check area set up before you even get into City Walk.

The only thing that shocks me is the no outside food or drink. I always take a bottle of water with me....I guess that is gone out the window now.

Damn! I wanted to bring in my patio table umbrella, and chair. I was going to stick it in the lawn and waste my day away waiting for Uni 360 to start. I love watching globes covered in bird droppings showing clips in a lagoon created for a Miami Vice Type Spectatcular. I much rather watch bird droppings light up to clipse of film, rather then a non-top boat adventure w/ pyro techniques. Oh well, I guess I'll leave my umbrella in my Trunk since it's of value to me.:D

If you're talking to me Tom Morrow, my point is that I received the slip today and thought it would be nice and convenient to post this on here for future reference. No need to be snotty.

I received the same notice last week.
But then I brought in granola & water without a problem.
I found the bag checkers & ticket takers to be hit or miss.
Some ticket takers did the finger scan & photo idea. Others did not even look at my ticket.

I've had a ticket person get snotty with me because I wouldn't let her grab my finger. I know how to use a finger scanner, i'm not an idiot.

I don't think people have a problem with security in general. However, sometimes people get annoyed at certain kinds of "extra" security because it ISN'T done for safety and instead is done to save face so to speak. Countless investigations (and even a couple of 60 minutes specials) have shown that all of that increased hastle and security at the airport hasn't really made us any safer at all. It's all to make you FEEL safer. More than once, I was caught bringing nail clippers through security but during a film shoot I had accidentally left a retractable metal KNIFE and it made it through without a problem. If people want to blow something up, they will find a way. What confuses me is that they check all of your bags when you board an airplane but I can board an amtrak train with an M-60 and a bomb and blow it and an entire commuter station up but no one thinks twice about the "DANGERS OF RIDING A TRAIN." I can also take a bazooka and blow up the brooklyn bridge killing thousands and thousands of people but no one thinks twice about driving over it. 9/11 should not mean we have to live our life in fear and settle for ridiculous 4 hour waits at "security" checkpoints because it lowers your quality of life. I'd rather have a shorter life in which I'm happy and not worrying about all of this B.S. It all just seems like much ado about nothing some times. Granted, some level security is fine but there is a point of diminishing returns where if you increase security measures by an additional 200 percent, you really are only .01 percent safer. :brick:

Well, for one thing, you put "Security Procedures" in quotes, which can be taken as another bash against Universal, like they're not going to enforce them as good as Disney could, or something.

And, you bolded things they've definitely been doing for a long time. Honestly, I don't think there was any increase, they just added that to get people to pay more attention to the slip.

That logic doesn't make sense. At the airports, if instead we hadn't done ANY increased security, then the chances would be much greater for people to copy past acts of terrorism.

DANG!!!!! Me, too, only I wanted to bring the barbecue so me 'n' the kids cold cook ourselves up some burgs and dogs. While we were at it, we were going to clean the family handguns and share that jug of moonshine. How're we gonna do that without duffels and coolers? :ROFLOL:

Not to get into an argument but what proof do you have for this? I'm pretty sure that if we had our pre-9/11 security at the airports, the only difference in our lives would be having to endure a bit less hassle. Ohh and we'd be allowed to bring a bottle of water on the airplane without having to pay 10 dollars for a new one at the terminal. There has been no evidence that we are even a shred safer because of all of this hysteria. You can't use the argument that 9/11 wouldn't have happened if we did this or that because it is all hindsight and the "terrorists" would have simply changed their plans around the new security measures. Look at it this way; if a lion hasn't attacked me since I started wearing my new shoes, that doesn't mean the shoes are keeping the lions at bay. However if all of this nonsense is actually making people FEEL safer, then kudos to them.

While I agree that if someone really wants to blow up or hijack a plane, they will find a way. But, at least with new security measures, they can't do it the ways they previously could which makes it more difficult.

I don't really think I need to go into further explanation. Also, for the record, I'm not even someone who supports all these extra efforts to stop terrorism, but I do realize how the new safety measures, such as the banning of carry-on liquids, prevent (or at least help prevent) previous terrorist plots from happening again.
