Increased daily rates

Agree, the trip for just my wife and I this year cost way more than our trip for a family of 4 in 1999 for the same length of stay. I have posted this before I wonder at what point the nickel and diming and resort rate increases will have an adverse effect on attendance.

They already ARE having an effect, WDW attendace was down what 3% year over year. Now with the layoffs hitting I think the numbers are getting worse not better as the economy improves yet Wall St demands margin increase EVERY quarter. This is not going to end well.

With attendance going down, does WDW think they can make up the difference in revenue by increasing prices. I'm no economist but it would seem if you continue to raise prices attendance will continue to go down--- seems like a never ending cycle. May be this is by design a way to lower the crowds and cater to those of means and not the blue collar working class. We will be doing an Alaskan cruise next year rather than WDW

I welcome a lowered attendance. I think secretly WDW may too. The parks are incredibly too packed. Even with a "drop" in attendance I never notice anything but more and more crowds.

I'm pretty sure that Disney is okay with the attendance drop because profits are still going strong. I didn't see the most recent financial results but know that in past quarters, they reported lower attendance but higher revenues. This benefits Disney because they're less likely to have insane crowds, which lowers guest satisfaction. They can save on the operating costs.

With that said, it's also a short-sighted approach because fans will still come, but the expectations are even higher due to the high costs. If a guest pays more and then doesn't have a good experience, they may choose not to come back as often. Unless Disney surveys them, they may not know for years about the move. Disney World is super popular still, and I've heard that crowds have been significant recently. Even so, the long-term issues aren't going away.
