Increased attendance in August?

So, 11 days to go... but it's almost time for bed so soon it will be 10 days! :)

I booked a last minute trip for a six night stay at SSR, beginning on August 19 via DVC (LOVE it). SSR was the only resort available, which is fine. I have been calling daily as they suggest to check on availability elsewhere- and there is NOTHING. There is ONE day during our stay that is available at Beach Club (we are waitlisted for Beach Club and Boardwalk- my fave).
I am amazed that so late into the summer, what's supposed to be the slower time of the year, is so completely booked! I ran into the same thing when trying to make ADR's. Not a big deal, I really don't like having an itinerary but between DVC availability and ADR's... anyone else running into this? I was so excited as last year when we went, we were walking onto Expedition Everest over and over and over...!

Still... I can't wait! This will be our third trip with out girls and now we're engaged- even more special!

We've been going (and will be going) around this time for a couple of years, and have found that the number of ADR's booked is not an accurate gauge of crowds. We mid-to-late August to be very light on crowds.

And I always see people on here saying that DVC is designed to be 100% capacity as much as possible, so it's not a good gauge of the crowds either. I just booked a trip for Jan 2-8 and SSR was the only resort available too! That's still like 5 months away for goodness sake!

The crowds are increasing because of the free dining starting later in the month. But we go every year around this time and it is always managable.. you just have to be smart and plan and use fast passes! Enjoy!

This is our 3rd year in a row going the same time frame (we check in the 19th also, at the Boardwalk Inn...sorry :D) and the crowds are not bad. Lots of us are there on free dining for thats the reason for the ADR's being limited. If you can deal with the heat you can do the crowds without a promblem!!!! Hope you have a great trip!

Went last year at the same time and had the same problem with ADR's. Nothing available. Yet everywhere we went to eat that week was only half full. Plenty of empty tables. Excellent time to go. Southern schools are back in session and lines were short. Only downside, HOT.

I have gone twice in late August and the crowds were great. This year I have been concerned since so many on this site are going too. Not sure if that is a true barometer of overall crowds though. I am thinking it will still be good though. A lot of US school systems are back in session by the middle to end of August.
