Just a reminder on posting here at WDWMAGIC.

There is an increasing trend for members to "bash" other members who post a question/opinion, simply because the question has been asked before, or the spelling isnt good, or the question is not the most original or accurate. In these cases, if you have nothing useful to contribute to the thread, please just ignore it. Replying with "witty" or sarcastic comments inflames the situation, and is dicouraging for genuine posters who may be new to WDW and message board concepts. If a thread is genuinly innappropriate, please use the REPORT TO MODERATOR link by the post to bring it to my attention.

I've been reading these boards for a month now. I've only posted a few times on these boards, partly because I researched before I asked questions. However there are some questions I wanted clarification about, but decided not ask to avoid annoying some of the less patient posters.

I agree there seems to be some that enjoy demeaning others. There is one thread in particular that is now locked where name calling and intolerance is the ongoing theme. "slovenly misfits" is just one example of name calling in this thread. I don't understand why more than one person has to complain to have a thread full of hate to be removed!?!

You have to strike a balance on allowing things to remain, and removing entire threads. If a thread was completely removed everytime an argument occured, or someone said something out of line, there would be very few threads remaining. Members who are behaving responsibly, shouldn't have threads that they participate in removed, just because of the actions of a minority. I therefore try to allow threads to remain unless they absolutely have to be removed. Hope that helps to explain.

I agree others should not have to suffer for those that dont have tact on these boards, however, in the rules of conduct thread you state:

While debating and discussion is fine, we will not tolerate rudeness, insulting posts, personal attacks or purposeless inflammatory posts.

The Post I am referring to does fall into at least one of the above mentioned categories if not two..

No. You're not a weird smoker. You are addicted to nicotine just like the rest. A pack a week is an addition. You are a drug addict.
In reality, there is no such thing as a "considerate" smoker. A person that smokes tobacco stinks!

Smoke gets in their hair, clothes, lungs and anything in which they come in contact. They are just like the cartoon character "Pigpen". They are happy to be smoky, slovenly misfits and spread their nasty odor without any shame. They often do this out of ignorance. Their own olfactory ability is so severely impaired that they can't smell their own stink! They think they are normal when, in fact, they are rude interlopers on the rest of society.

How can this post not be considered rude, inflammatory, and insulting? I understand not deleting the thread, but I feel this particular post should be deleted from the thread as if definatly is against the rules of conduct!

It isn't necessary for more than one person to complain, but at least one person must complain using the report to moderator function. Otherwise, we may not be aware of the problem.

Yes, This morning I went to the thread and clicked on the triangle thing and wrote an essay as to why I think that post should be removed.

It doesnt matter how many people complain about that post, The fact is it is rude, and very insulting which is against the rules of conduct. It should be removed.

That thread has been locked, which means it can no longer be bumped to the forefront. Steve may still choose to delete it later.

Also, I am not sure where you are located, but he is in the UK. So sometimes you have to allow for the difference in time zones.

Is it because new members stand at the bottom of the pecking order on these boards, therefor new members opinions don't count? :brick: There are enough sites out there that cater to the rude and obnoxious, I never thought a site dedicated to DW would fall into this category

All reported threads are reviewed and action taken where neccessary. Just because a report is made, does not mean that the thread will automatically be removed or locked.

It makes no difference whether a reported post comes from a new poster or a 4 year long standing member. All are looked at equally.

The forums here are not rude and obnoxious. With 27,000 members, there will always be things people dont agree with. However, as with any community, you have to be tolerant, and sometimes ignore things that you dont like.

I reported this post only to have NOONE answer me back as to why they will not remove the post that I and others find offensive.
