First review!

Kudos to you this time Phantom - for getting it in first!

I must say, this was probably one of my favorite proposals from you this contest! Though, to be fair to everyone else, it does go above and beyond the 1-5 sentence and 1 image limit...that being said I think your ideas were very well thought out and this would be a great upgrade. I love the name as well - Century 4!
I've given up on winning now I'm just answering the promps.

Horizons 21

The Horizons pavilion has been operating for ten years, but since its edutainment objective is for us to consider what innovations are possible “just over the horizon” we will adjust the story line as follows: 1) Replace what the “future looked like in the past” with a creative look at dreamers and doers, the visionaries and achievers who saw the future and made it happen, utilizing AA’s of pioneering scientists, inventors and explorers, such as Tom Edison, Marie Curie, George Washington Carver, and Neil Armstrong in vignettes depicting their achievements, 2) Update the Ominmax portion of the ride by adding images from the Hubble Space Telescope, in vitro fertilization, and the new World Wide Web, while updating portions related to space rockets, microprocessors and the cityscape, and 3) Tweak the existing city/desert farm/space/sea colony with additions of innovative energy solutions (solar, wind, undersea turbines) and updated communications technology. Physical refurbishment will involve cladding the pavilion in silvery panels and lining the ribs on the roof’s surface with thin strips of rainbow colored lights, while the omnimover vehicles will be changed from orange to periwinkle blue. Although Horizons has always focused on the journey to the 21st Century, these improvements will merit re-naming the pavilion to Horizons 21.

I like the 3 step process here - it keeps stuff organized, and is very easy to follow for the reader to get the main grasp of what you are planning to do.

1 - Enjoy this adjustment as it gives a new fresh take on the beginning.
2 - LOVE the Hubble space telescope...in vitro fertilization? (now you're talking my language) overall though with the world wide web I will say the same thing I said to Tony that in a few years it may be a bit outdated to show this stuff specifically. Maybe a narration of it, but I'd push on right to the future - something that doesn't need a refurbishment after a couple decades.
3 - This was another great inclusion and your fandom of Horizons has shined through with this project!

New Horizons

latest

Horizons was originally designed to be a sort of sequel to Carousel of Progress, but you were merely an observer of the future, passing by scenes without really experiencing it; New Horizons will take you into the heart of the future to really get the feel of the endless possibilities, and this new take will drive the point home: the future is all up to you.

Along with the outside of the building being repainted with lighter neutral tones, a new theme song will take center stage, as well as the ride vehicles getting rid of their boxy appearance for a rounder, lighter look with the clear emblem of HORIZONS 1 embossed on the front.

(start at 10:57)

The early ride scenes (Looking Back At Tomorrow) will be part of the queue that you can either stop and look at or bypass (as it will not impact the ride experience), and then you will enter into the Futureport (a space port with updated effects complete with baggage claim) to board your shuttle to the many possible futures narrated by Morgan Freeman.

Traveling into the future, you smell the sea salt before diving into the oceans (simulated with lights and projections) with aquatic vehicles and marine life passing above, below and to the sides, you enter into the underwater habitat to dry off and witness the classroom scene, then you rise out of the water amidst a field of green fruits (fruit smell) before soaring above the crops where the vehicle will tilt slightly to let you gaze over the automatic farming machines and the woman overseeing the operations, you then weave in and out of the flying cars of the cities, and lastly blast into space (which will utilize the updated technology of OmniMax IMAX screens) where you will actually travel through the gravity wheel as it rotates around you with the occasional person (or dog) floating overhead.

On the way back to the Futureport, you still get to choose your ending but with more choices (what you want to do, where you want to live, and how you want to get there) and the screen will display each unique collection of choices into a specialized presentation; but before leaving make sure to stop by the Passport booth that will take your photo to print out a “passport” stating where you live (Mesa Verde, Brava Centauri, Sea Castle, or Nova Cite) and what your occupation is (teacher, agricultural engineer, surgeon, etc) with the New Horizons mission statement printed at the bottom: If we can dream it, we can do it, as long as we reach for new horizons.

Must say - this was probably my favorite (or one of the favorites) out of the bunch! (And not just because we accidentally had the same title:p)

Love the idea of having the queue be the "look back at tomorrow" portion - a great way to have it be included and not have it feel outdated as it's really easy to update a queue if needed.

Overall, just very good descriptions all around - and a great sense of the attraction as a whole - very impressive!

Horizons: New Beginnings
This remodel of the ever popular Horizons Pavilion at EPCOT Center is sure to please all guests, cast members, and most importantly GE with its new, sleek, metallic design and greater product placement that is blended into the ride seamlessly. The changes start with the exterior, queue, and loading, as well as drastic changes towards the beginning, where the slopes on the exterior of the pavilion are made silver and have curved, metal extensions that bring the pavilion to a point. The queue's theming is very akin to that of modern day test track, similar to the cars and loading zone which make way to the new introduction in a starfield that is seemingly empty, but through on vehicle laser effects projecting into a blank background begin to demonstrate a brief technological history (with on board narration by Bob Saget) , and visions of the future by Jules Verne in a condensed segment from the original which makes way to the most impressive scene that is the ascent. The ascent begins in what looks like a metallic tube, into which we slowly arise out of with a view of a gleaming skyline, a large lagoon, and floating towers, akin to that of the Jetsons with projected flying cars floating everywhere. Guests then travel through this futuristic town called Mytra One where they will visit the High Rise District, for which you will receive a tour by the famous robot butler of the homes futuristic appliances from GE, The Cloud District, where a young girl named Galaxia will give you a tour as to how altitude affects things and shows off other GE products, and then you dive down to the Lagoon District, where a father named Aqueous shows the luxuries of underwater living, followed by a launch back into the stars, where you can choose a tomorrow to travel home through using the same effects as the past, concluding a trip that is sure to please the whole family.
Hmm on one hand this is very well described and as detailed as you can possibly be in 5 sentences While I love all of the districts, and I'm sure G.E. loves all the product placement - I'm just picturing Danny Tanner as the narrator and..hmm..it's an interesting choice I'll give you that:D. My go to narrator in these projects is always Tom Hanks, but anyway moving on.

Everything is pretty self explanatory - and most of the adjustments (in particular the design) were great additions. And the starfield too. I guess while everything was very good nothing really stood out as a "wow" that's different type of change?

It might just be the chunk of text and no image - so for future projects I'd take advantage of images and music - as well as dividing up the paragraph you have so your individual ideas have room to breathe and shine! Overall - another solid output though!:)

City Horizons
Pavilion-oi.jpg

Revamping the attraction with an update of the future, where you travel through the city of tomorrow. Similar to the ending of the current Spaceship Earth, you will get to decide your own journey with a series of questions as you ascend up to the top of the pavilion. At the top, you will be divided into one of three ending possibilities where the rest of the attraction will be about your future, and seeing you in the future. It will be an immersive experience for guests of all ages, and one that can be updated once more if necessary.
Nice work, Angels! This is an interesting idea, kind of blending the original concept of a "Project City" with Epcot Future World. I also like your idea of having there be locations and having it be a live action Spaceship Earth finale type thing - I guess my one consideration would be - I would love to hear more about it! Like the design of the pavilion - would that change? Overall, solid job!

Horizons Two: Now Departing

A completely revised and re-imagined version of the classic Horizons ride, Horizons Two keeps its eye on the future while adding some thrill ride aspects to the attraction. After boarding your Horizons One-inspired ride vehicle (now enhanced with lap bars), you'll face and orbit around an updated "city of tomorrow" while narration intones that the future isn't far away at all. As your ridepod rotates and slowly ascends 720 degrees around the model, the memorable "explore your future" feature arrives at this point of the ride, rather than later, and the riders select their desired future. The vehicle continues ascending until it is well above the city model, then, nearly at the top of the ride building, the ridepod separates from those adjacent to it and then travels forward along one of three separate, physical ride tracks, with practical sets (no screens) depicting the chosen journey (space, undersea or nighttime urban setting) passing you on all sides as the ride vehicle moves forward and down, occasionally slowing and speeding past sets and through "speed tunnels," eventually making its way to ground level, where the ride vehicles join alongside one another in sideways motion as they began and pass before the new Omnisphere grand finale. A gift shop at ride exit will feature books about futuristic studies for all ages so that guests may take their visions of the future to horizons beyond.
Ah - nice name for this! Horizons Two - it's simple, but works in so well with the original (Horizons 1):D

I also appreciate the ambition with this one - very much so - as its a complete departure from the original. And I love the thrill aspect of it, as it provides a different flavor the the experience and maybe might give it some staying power for the future. My one thing would be the space limitations, and how much of the interior would have to be gutted for it to happen. But, the ambition is commended - great job!:)

On the Horizon

In 1993, Horizon closes for refurbishment; it will be receiving a compelling new storyline and a fresh new interior. However this is not that pitch, this good sirs is about the construction walls to be used in said refurbishment!

86.-Construction-wall-and-large-mound-of-dirt-future-world-epcot-walt-disney-world.jpg

The construction walls we will be using will be made out of 100% Oak wood, a nice and sturdy wood. It will be painted a nice futuristic, Cerulean with Turquoise and Periwinkle accents. Inspirational quotes said by Walt Disney will be paraphrased to be used as decoration on the walls; the quotes will not be Eggshell, but a striking white. Lastly the walls will be a good seven feet tall to scare off those who try to look over it.
Hmm...:p

Into the Horizons
As requested by GE, Horizons will receive a major overhaul to continue to inspire, but this time, with the view of the brightest minds of the 19th century! Jules Verne and Thomas Edison will collaborate to create a marvelous journey to their vision of a wonderful future. You will be taken to the year 2028 (200 years after Jules Verne was born) to travel through time, and space using their ideas to get there; what you'll see are people living in spacestation like communities, with everything from aquariums, parks, and restaurants - like Edison will gleefully say, you will "Journey to it, through it, and be in your future".
View attachment 160735
This Steampunk style 21st century themed attraction will feature contraptions thought up from Verne, like the Catapult Cannon, and put together using Edison's technology. The exterior will get a very minor Steampunk look, but the scenes will be completely gutted (kind of like Maelstrom to Frozen: Ever After), and the vehicles will be updated with new paint, and slight aesthetic changes, because the vehicles will be reality machines (meaning whatever you make of life that's how your future will be as the ride will be Verne's and Edison's dream of the future, and then in the end that is handed over to you to choose between three dreams of the future that will be shown in the finale) - also the attraction will have a couple of tension building moments traveling through space and time.

o_O Did you know beforehand that music is in one of my favorite movie scenes of all time?

Some extra bonus points for that alone. Sorry, I can't downgrade Hans Zimmer or Interstellar

Moving on -- there are some really neat concepts with this, and it went in a different direction than intended. And a nice choice with the Steampunk theme, as that really can never be outdated - how it fits in Future World though may be a different story - but since its a minor addition - I can see it fitting.

It reminds me a little of the American Adventure with Mark Twain and Ben Franklin as narrators (this time Verne and Edison) - so props for those inclusions.

Overall, a unique spin on the attraction, I personally probably wouldn't have thought of going in this direction - but you pulled it off well!

Are we going to do anything with The Universe of Energy now that it will probably be Guardians of The Galaxy?
And to answer this question...

I'll announce it coming up after the results, but given that tcool's competition "A Twist in Time" will be starting sign-ups on 9/14, we will have two more main challenges in the One Sentence Contest, before we turn it over to the next competition!

I'm always of the mindset to end things on a high note - always leave wanting more:) Rather than drag things out, so we will end things with a bang and keep moving forward! Hopefully everyone has had a blast so far - from the ideas themselves I can see that you all are great imagineers.

Anyway - back to the question at hand - the final round two challenges will be 1 DHS prompt and 1 Animal Kingdom prompt. And in the final round - there's a bonus where you can make up your own challenge and do whatever you'd like! (So if you'd like Guardians - you can do it!):D

Horizons: Reborn

The new Horizons begins with the tune of “There’s a Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow,” and shows an animatronic of Walt Disney announcing the Florida project - aka EPCOT, while a narrator announces why the ambitious project was canceled. The ride proceeds to take guests through how the vision of the utopia was shaped by dreamers, like Walt, and how the vision of the dystopia and the fear of failure has halted work towards the utopia. The ride inspires guests to work towards a utopia and dream to create a better tomorrow by showing them different versions of cities in the future — underwater cities, space stations, land utopias, and finally a re-created simulation of EPCOT. This ride inspires hope rather than fear into a new generation of dreamers.

EPCOT-Concept-1966.jpg
Last - but not least!

While I enjoyed Angels project - this really took that concept to the next level, and surprised me with how well it was pulled off!

This is something that would never need an upgrade of technology - as the vision for Epcot will always be, and what a great location in Epcot itself! Very impressive job!

Prompt 6 - October 1993 - Results

Yes...here we are again with the tough choices. Fantastic round again to everyone! You all really went above and beyond the Horizon;)

Without further delay - here are the results! With some explanations - as I feel you all deserve them especially this round with the eclectic variety of options.

honorable-mention.jpg

Goes to @Tony the Tigger for Good Things on the Horizon
and @OvertheHorizon for Horizons 21
and @michmousefan for Horizons Two

Tony and OvertheHorizon both had fantastic concepts and stuff I would love to see in the additions - what kept them from the higher rounds is I felt some of the additions may, in a few decades, feel outdated (like the 1960s scene in Carousel of Progress) and we'd need another refurb.

michmousefan got this because I really appreciated the ambition of the project, even if some of the alterations didn't have an explanation for how it would fit.

Bronze Medal...
bronze_medal.png

Goes to @David2319 for Into the Horizons!
David, much like michmousefan, truly changed the attraction - adding some new elements to it, but I felt this one was a bit more toned down in scale, and also was unique with the new facelift.

Silver Medal ...
94e277b35b521e8bfef0d840a52aceab.png

Goes to @kmbmw777 for Horizons: Reborn!
Kevin got this due to the creative way he infused Epcot into the attraction and gave it a home that made sense with the theme of Horizons - an attraction that I always felt embodied the spirit of Epcot as a whole - this added to that...however

Gold Medal...
gold_medal.png

Goes to @FigmentPigments for New Horizons!

While this wasn't the project that altered the attraction concept the most, it also wasn't the one that kept it too similar either. It's like the Goldilocks of the bunch - and it got gold too:p

When I read this I could picture this happening and bringing Horizons to a new height where it could hopefully stay for decades to come - congratulations Figment!

Prompt 7 - October 1998
Disney-MGM-Studios2.jpg

Jumping ahead to 1998 - Disney's MGM Studios will be receiving a new roller coaster, Rock N' Roller Coaster, soon. The park is popping, which means more guests, which means we need more capacity!

And as a refresher, in the One Sentence Contest, we've designed"
A hotel, dark ride, water ride, pavilion, restaurant, and refurbishment - now "a show!"

The Challenge:
In this scenario, you must come up with an "elevator pitch" for a new stage show in Disney's MGM Studios to disperse the crowds sure to be headed down Sunset Boulevard. You can place it anywhere you like, and it can be themed to whatever you like as well - just keep in mind the time period!

Like last round, you can include 1-5 sentences in your description. You may also include an image and music if it helps.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask! Two more challenges to go, let's finish strong!

This project will be due on Wednesday September 14th at 8 PM EST (but you can turn it in early if you wish!)

Good Luck and Have Fun Imagineers!:)
