Really was not impressed by the Disneyland version. Seemed more like a vacation planning video.
I had the exact opposite opinion. Having bought and read those Imagineers Guides to (fill in park name here) books, I was looking forward to the DL DVD. I thought the books were broad stroked thinking out loud stff that I could care less about. Yes, I get it!! They used forced perspective on their buildings!! I don't need to see that repeated on EVERY page of the books! That being that, I bought the DVD in April and was pleasantly surprised that it seemed more detail oriented rather than a quick wash of ideas.
Look, no Disney Dork such as yourself or most other hard core people are going to find ANY DVD from Disney worth it. If you know it all and have been to the parks 100000 times, what could they possibly have to show you at this point?
But to the "uneducated" Disney park goer, its a great DVD. I never knew that Splash Mountatin got its name because the suits from marketing wanted this new "Zip-A-Dee-Do-Da Water Ride" to some how tie into the upcoming release of the movie Splash. Of course, Splash Mountain seems like a no brainer today, but if there wasn't that compromise on the neame, the suits could have very well won out and got their wish for MERMAIDS to be placed in the ride!
So just little things like that were pretty interesting and I really didn't think that much of it was a tourist video. All of the people they interviewed were senior imagineers and they discussed how they built things, etc.
My wife really enjoyed it and ever after her being to WDW 20 times, she really enjoyed seeing how it all started, etc. I'm hoping that the WDW DVD is near the contents of the DL DVD so I can purchase it. It seems rather odd that there is no real "official" DVDs about WDW other than the touristy "we want your money" stuff that the Disney web sites let you order for free.
