Are there any changes coming to the WDW entrances?

I've seen the Imagineering trucks parked outside the World Center Drive entrance gate twice this month and a CM taking photos of the area.

Does anybody know what is going on?

Perhaps they're planning an overlay/addition for the 40th Anniversary, similar to the "What Will You Celebrate" additions that used to be on there.

Are you talking the entrance to MK/TTC? If so, I know people in the know were talking about a complete redesign of the toll plaza location. There's lots of accidents beyond the toll plaza for the intersection of the road that goes over to the campground. A redesign is in the works to help that intersection.

I was surprised by the amount of accidents there as well. Thats good to know.

Yeah think about it. Parents all pumped up liked the kids not paying attention to what's in front of them and BAM.. opps.. Not a a good way to start a vacation. :(

Unfortunately, taking a picture, at the entrance, seems like something a great deal of people would want to do to note the beginning of their vacation. There are some people that do not live in the Orlando area and do not go to the parks on a weekly basis. To those individuals, a photo at the entrance to WDW may even be something special. Sometimes, I think it would be helpful if people could try and think outside their own little sphere of reality.

The "emergency stopping only" signs near the entrances are for the safety of the guests and when people stop to take photos they could cause a dangerous situation on the roads. Car accidents are not magical and would be a horrible way to start any vacation let alone a Disney one.

Perhaps they're installing a photopass camera (like at the end of Splash Mountain) where they make you pay for a photo of your car going under the Welcome to Disney arch. :p

Exactly!

And to satisfy both sides...

Las Vegas created an island park in the center of Las Vegas Boulevard at the "Welcome to Las Vegas" sign because people were doing exactly what is being discussed here. They simply made a safe location where people could take all the pictures they want without endangering themselves or impeding traffic.

I do admit that it would be a smart idea for WDW to do something similiar to cope with the predicament.

That would be Epcot Center Drive you mean. Yes,they have now changed the signs as you enter to "No Stopping,Strictly Enforced." And temporary bolisters have been installed along the roadside to stop guests from stopping to take pictures. Also Orange County Sheriffs are now sitting behind the signage and are issuing very expensive tickets if you stop. And then afterwards with a smile tell you enjoy your vacation folks!!

Sounds like an excellent idea!

THANK YOU!! I'm going this year after 15 years of not going... I sure will want a picture of that entrance. It makes me exited to see on google earth, so imagine when I'm actually in front of it. I might get a heart attack! so there would still be a dead body on the road, just without all the accident drama. :p
