I'm confused about Wi-Fi / Navigator app

So I know that the Navigator app is free to download and uses the ship's WiFi and I know you can buy blocks of Internet time but do you have to use the minutes you purchased to use the Navigator? Or is that free but to use your personal phone for Internet, etc uses the minutes?

The servers that host the "Navigator" are located on the ship, so your phone just uses the onboard WiFi network to access it. You're never actually connecting to the internet, so it doesn't use - or require - any minutes.

OK, that makes sense. I didn't think they would charge you to use it but my hubby insisted that it used minutes. Thanks!

Right, you're good to go. Of course, that assumes you're on one of the ships that has it. I think only the Fantasy and Dream have it right now, but I'm not positive.

They recommend that you put your phone into airplane mode and then turn on your wifi capability. I wasn't all that impressed with the app, to be honest. If I'm going to carry something around with me, I'd rather have the paper Navigator than my phone. That's probably because I'm OLD!

Lol! Now that was funny.

I didn't carry it around, but my hubby, who wouldn't be without his phone even for two seconds, always had it. I really liked it. I think there's a lot more they can do with it, but it has some great features. The ability to look ahead at activities later in the week was my favorite part.

We will be on Fantasy, so we'll have it. I'll probably end up using the paper one because my husband always worries that we'll get caught roaming somehow and run up a million dollar phone bill if it isn't turned all the way off and locked in the safe. I guess we'll see. I've heard good and bad things about. I'm not sure if I'll want to carry my phone if I have to carry the wave phone, too. Paper might work best.

I haven't heard anything bad about it. I think almost everyone likes it. Even I liked it. It was kind of cool. But all the information was also in my paper Navigator (except for the future days, obviously), so I just used the paper.

And as you said, if you're already carrying a Wave Phone to keep in touch with kids -- UGH.

You definitely should download the actual app before leaving! You don't want to have to do that on the ship's Wi-Fi.
After that, just make sure you are in airplane mode and you should be good.

Right! If you don't buy internet minutes, you can't download the app because it's actually hosted on the web (app stores). Must put it on your phone before the cruise.
