Hey Dreamer and Snowwhite, cool (literally) to hear from you while I am still listening to WSM from your area. We are almost as bad as you are here.

I think if I lived in Nashville, I might have to consider moving into the Opryland Hotel, where the "outside" is inside! BTW, I wonder what the glass-ceiling over their gardens looked like with all that snow you got last week. Do either of you know, or would someone else who lives somewhere with a building with glass ceiling know whether it gets really dark when snow piles on it????

Anyway, I still want to hear from WDW people about what the parks and resorts are like in the deep freeze....

And what is the actual weather like in Orlando today anyway?

We're expecting a low in the mid-teens tonight. WDW is usually about 10 degrees warmer. However, the wind chill will make it feel close to zero. I wouldn't want to be standing along 7 seas lagoon tonight!! (It was bad enough last week. )

I might also remind everyone that heat pumps were not designed for temperatures much below 20; it's going to be chilly in the morning when I get up...and I have all tile or hardwood floors! Brrr...cold feet!

I think i'm staying inside today :)

If I may ask; How do you all cope with extreme cold like that? How does the electricity keep up with the demand? Are schools cancelled? Malls open? Grocery stores going full steam?
The last time we had extreme cold for us, we were placed on brown outs, which meant the power was turned off for hours so other people could have juice. Every 6 hours the juice would get turned off. Louisiana Power and Light could not keep up with the demands. Thank goodness I have a fireplace.

We got a slight reprieve today it got up to 20 deg. with a windchill of about 10.
As far as coping with the extreme weather,up here in the north we are used to it. Yes many schools were closed.
and we try to stay indoors!:D

Eh, its not that cold....:hammer: :hammer:

Never really heard of things closing up here because of the cold, you just learn to live with it. No problems with electricity...most people in cold weather areas (esp. in the Northeast) don't have electric heat, they have gas or oil heat, so there's not really more of a demand on electricity than there'd normally be.

definately.....I work in one. And when a snow storm is coming more people come to buy food just in case they get snowed in. And then of course the snow comes and they're all in there again. But I hate cold

Up here in icy northern New York, we are all getting cabin fever. This is the coldest winter I EVER remember. Schools are open as usual, and businesses, too - cold weather and snow alone don't usually tangle things up too much. Ice storms, however, are a different story! I don't know anyone who heats their home with electricity - it's just prohibitively expensive. We use natural gas - can't wait to see my next Niagara Mohawk bil!:(

It's such a big deal here to be down to 20 degrees. It hasn't snowed since December 1989, when the power company couldn't keep up with the demand. I remember being so cold indoors, and at the time I worked at a grocery store. It was crazy because people were trying to get ready for the holidays and we couldn't do anything but help people with flashlights to select their groceries, and bag. The power didn't stay on long enough to heat the ovens (they stayed on 24/7 anyway), couldn't heat grease to fry donuts, couldn't slice meat and had to reprogram scales since they were out over 6 hours. But we HAD to be there. Then we looked out around 2pm and snow! Don't ever drive in La when it's snowing because people don't know how.
