Illuminations Scenario

Hi folks!

Here is the deal: Im going to Epcot all day on Sept 18th and leaving after Illuminations. The DW and I are going with my mom (67) and my neice (10) and nephew (12). We are gonna have some tired and cranky folks by then, So getting back to the Poly (i.e. off the feets) is critical. So is it better to take the monorail and walk from the TTC when we leave illuminations or just take the bus? Or are wait times equal after the show? Thanks!

I would recomend that you wait in World Showcase for about 30 minutes and relax. Take in the sights and sounds. By then, no one will be around. Begin your slow walk back to the entrance and take the monorail. You shouldn't have more than a 10 minute wait. :)

I like the above advice. If you can convince your folks that waiting will be nicer in World Showcase than in the line for the monorail or the bus, have a seat and enjoy the wonderful sites of World Showcase at night. Then head out. If the monorail line still looks unbearable, head over to the bus.

Like everyone said, after Illuminations wait at LEAST 30 minutes. Just relax, people watch, maybe do some small exploring, eat a small snack you got before the show. Don't worry about getting out, the buses run at least 2 hours after the closing. And they, (cm), don't push you out. And if you wait long enough you can see the gas blowoff from the fire barge too.

Unless I'm reading something wrong...why don't you wait for the monorail after the crowds have cleared, take it to the TTC, and then board the resort monorail? Will they have stopped running by that time?

I would agree on waiting and taking your time in leaving. There's no rush. Take the monorail back. The wait shouldn't be bad by that time, and you can relax on the way to the TTC. Depending on the location of your building at the Poly, you can either walk or board the Resort Loop monorail. On our last stay there, we were close enough to the TTC that it was only about a five minute walk. Another plus IMHO is that you really have no idea how often a bus will run, whereas the monorails run on pretty solid schedules.

Take a break and sit down and relax for a few minutes and let all the people stamped out of the park and then take your time to get out of there. Then take the monorail and you should be fine, The monorails run on a much tighter schedule then the buses ever could.
