Illuminations questions

Being a big fan of illuminations, I have some questions:

#1. Does anyone know how much it costs disney to put on one illuminations show?

#2. How do they do that neat TV screen effect on the globe out in the middle of the lake? LCD screens?

Thanks,
Jim

It's still very pricey, but it has been cheapened over the years. You can definitely tell right before Celebration (when the images are "swirling" on the Earth Globe) that the fireworks are cheaper than they used to be--they don't stay in the sky nearly as long as they used to. Still a very impressive show.

Interesting, because from most of the opinions I’ve read of people who’ve seen both, they wished Disney Sea would inherit Illuminations. I haven’t seen the former, so I wouldn’t know, just relaying what I've read.

Is it my imagination, or are the lasers not used to as great an effect in Reflections of Earth as they were in Illuminations (88-96)?

Oh, and has anyone seen a download of Illuminations 25 anywhere?

Thanking yow.:)

Yeah, thinking about it, I totally agree. They should use them a little more, especially due to the amount of smoke produced by those fireworks!

I LOVE the Illuminations Show!

I hope they never replace it. I like it better than the Wishes Fireworks at the Magic Kingdom.

Illuminations Forever!!!!
:) :) :)

I have a question for others posting on this topic: Where do you watch the Illuminations at Epcot? Is there a favorite spot you like to watch them, or a great viewing spot?

I watch them in front of World Showcase in between Mexico and Canada.

Just prior to RoE, they installed all new laser booths, using custom colors. It seems that the new custom colors are nowhere near as effective as the old blue/gree/red lsaer they used to use.

It's approx. $10,000 a night.

You are in the ballpark but I remember hearing it's a little more than that.

About the show. It has cheapened even over the last couple years. It is a little weaker but still great. However, before Wishes this show used to just captivate me and it's all I wanted to see at night. After seeing Wishes we went back to see Illuminations and it just wasn't the same to me. It had much less of an effect and it seemed shorter (because Wishes is so much longer than FITS).

After seeing Wishes then Illuminations, we spent the rest of the nights watching Wishes.

Has anybody else noticed that Disney's Illuminations is absolute musical genius? I'm a music major and have examined the song many times through. It is unbelievable how many themes are played with and how exciting the music is along with the fireworks. Does anybody know who composed this piece?

I have an mpeg video of illuminations from 2000...not sure if that's what you're looking for, but if you have a fast connection and AIM, you can talk to me at my screen name jim2386 and I'll gladly send it to you.

As listed in the CD inlay, Reflections of Earth was produced, composed and conducted by Gavin Greenaway. It was recorded at Abbey Road Studios, London with members of The London Symphony Orchestra and Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.

I'm not sure who, but my brother has it on CD and I love it. Made really really good backround music from my picture slideshow I made of our disney trip last summer!:D

Our last trip we did an Illuminations Cruise. They dock the boat under the bridge by the International Gateway. It was nice to be out of the crowds. :)

How do you make reservations on the Illuminations Cruise? I am going in June and Love Illuminations and would like to see it from that perspective.

You can make reservations by calling 407-WDW-PLAY. However reservations can be made 90 days in advance, and they may be booked already for June. I do encourage you to call anyway, you just never know. You may also want to check out http://www.allearsnet.com/btp/illum.htm for more information on the illumination cruises.
