IllumiNations Mistake Tonight

I agree that World of Color (or a similar type show) wouldn't work at Epcot. They would have to drain the entire lagoon to install the fountains and other infrastructure. I seriously doubt World of Color will be coming to WDW anytime soon.

That being said, I would not be opposed to an reimagined version of Illuminations that borrowed some elements from World of Color.

I agree. EPCOT needs its own show. They shouldn't copy WoC. They ought to be able to come up with something to replace IllumiNations. Heck, I bet if we brainstormed here for 5 minutes we could come up with something better.

I didn't like Illuminations 2012 version at all. It just never seemed to get started. The theme of it fits better in AK.
I LOVED Illuminations 1989 version. All the countries lighting up, the lasers on the globe, fireworks in time to lively music, then the same lasers on SSE as you left the park. Brilliant.

Lets see, do we really want a show that operates like World of Color...
If Epcot had a World of Color or a show like it they would have to drain the entire lake, there would be walls all around. Another thing is that they would have no more fireworks, do to a giant piping system they're would be no place to launch fireworks. Yu can kiss the lasers goodbye because they are way to high for the Fountains to reach and to far. They project mostly on to smoke. If the fountains break theres no show at all.

Then theres matenence... thats the fun part. First of all they can barley keep up the Fountain of Nations and the Imagination Fountains, yes they do look good at times but have you ever seen them when before there little refurbishment's? Trust me it's not pretty. Now imagine them trying to keep up with a big fountain system like World of Colors, especially in a big lake like that. Its hard enough for them to change a lightbulb on Main Street. The show would be a disaster and fall apart very fast.

Couple of things.

Russia quadrant was dark. Is that art imitating life?

Illuminations forever in World Showcase. Very cool with update/refurbish/repair as needed. No WOC, please.

We could call it.. The Colorful World of Nations!

but one part of Illuminations I do not understand is the inferno barge... what the heck is that supposed to symbolize???

It's supposed to be the creation of earth after the Big Bang which is the first three fireworks at the beginning. It represents volcanoes.

RoE isn't going anywhere. It just needs a lot of money spending on it. Proper maintainence has been deferred for too long. It is due an overhaul and some plussing (recent tweaks are evidence of things being tested) but at the moment I fear any substantial investment would all be directed to more pressing matters of keeping the show going.

The lagoon is man made.

Man-made does not equal a contained and controlled environment, which is required for World of Color.

Paradise Bay in DCA is a fully concrete-lined, filtered and chemically-treated water system. It's essentially a giant pool. The closest equivalent in WDW would be the moat in the Fantasmic amphitheater.

World Showcase Lagoon was dug and left to live its life as a lake, just like Seven Seas Lagoon was.

I think WOC or a similar show would be better placed at DHS

Yeah, if there's anywhere in WDW where a World of Color type show would fit, it would probably be at DHS. The problem is that presently, there's no place in the park where they could mount it, unless the rumored expansion includes a large artificial body of water.

Lets see....Where should they put a show in which they project MOVIES and celebrate Disney FILMS? Hmmm. Maybe DHS?!?! RoE fits in very well with the whole EPCOT and WS scene. Now it does need proper maintenance and a budget to keep it in top form, but no WoC.

Some Small changes and additions would be nice to. More lasers and laser images in the fountains would be nice, especially the part where the globe goes solo LOL.

So tonight at IllumiNations when the fireworks crew went out to fix the fountains because they didn't work properly and while they were out at the barges the first 10 seconds of the show went off along with the fireworks that shoot off on the water while they were out there. Ended up delaying the show for 30 minutes to reset everything since they manually shut down everything for emergency safety.
I was at EPCOT on friday night. They sieme to had problem in 1 of the foutain barge again. After the first round of firworks a team on a boat reach this barge. Look like a lighting problem, only the blue light was working on the fountain.
I didnt realy pay attention on the day but I think they did some work on the fontain during the day.
