If you get a letter saying your husband drove through an area known for prostitution, don't worry!

LOL -- this is happening in Sanford.... which is neither Orlando nor Orange County. However, it is the home of Larry the Cable Guy and George Zimmerman! :D
Ehh. Orange county...Sanford...same procedure with a different name on the paperwork.

Sanford, BTW, is 40 miles away from WDW... so it's not even that close to Disney.
Why does it matter if it is close to Walt Disney World? People still live there. Some probably visit family and friends or go there for business. Maybe not in the same numbers, but its still affecting people.

The police are targeting areas known for crime and prostitution and during early morning times... I seriously doubt that tourists will be visiting those areas at those times. Just my opinion of course. I don't think it's that big of a deal.

You are right for the most part, but it is guilt by association. If they want to pull over someone suspicious, fine, but to send a letter to the house accusing them of something is way out of line. That letter could easily end a marriage not to mention there are a myriad of situations that could be construed as suspicious, but are completely legitimate.

My office is in a very bad area of town where I can see drug deals and prostitutes from my office window. I often have to do field visits to construction projects in this same area and might have to drive around in a "suspicious manner" looking for job site. If JSO was doing this same thing in this neighborhood I, along with several of my coworkers, would probably be getting letters.

The car owner is not being accused of picking up prostitutes... maybe there's a fine line being drawn here, but it seems to me that if your business in the neighborhood is legitimate then it'd be easy to explain your presence there to your wife/husband/SO.

The Sanford Community, in conjunction with the Sanford Police Department, is committed to
improving the safety and security of the communities and streets within the City of Sanford.
Numerous residents and business people have expressed their concerns regarding street
prostitution in their neighborhoods. This community safety letter is our way of informing you of
the important initiative underway within this neighborhood and to seek your support.

There is a clear correlation between street prostitution and drug use, including crack cocaine, as
well as a variety of health concerns including H.I.V and Hepatitis. Community members,
including their children, are frequently finding used needles and condoms in playgrounds and
public areas. The increased pedestrian and vehicle traffic has a direct effect on the quality of life
for the community and we need your help to improve this community.

In order to maximize the efforts of community leaders in securing safe streets for their children,
the Sanford Police Department kindly asks that you help the members of these communities.
You can do your part by refraining from bringing your vehicle into this area unnecessarily.

The Sanford Police Department applauds the efforts of this neighborhood in attempting to make
it a safe community for its families and children. On their behalf, we welcome your support for
this important community safety initiative.

If you have any questions, you may consult the Sanford Police Department website
(www.sanfordfl.gov) or you may call me directly at 407-688-5070. Your cooperation in this
matter is appreciated.

Yours truly,

Sergeant Jason Shor

You are assuming that every significant other is completely sane and rational 100% of the time. My wife would shrug that letter off. My neighbour's, not so much.

That's true. Maybe I'm just being blasé about the whole thing... the residents there apparently have enough of a problem that they are willing to allow the police to try this.

But... on the whole, it's not the stupidest thing to ever occur in Florida...

You are 100% correct there.

But if my business in the neighbourhood is legitimate then it is not the government's task to make me have to explain things to my wife.

I'd see a lawyer with that letter and sue that police department for libel.
