If you could fly & Take Flight

OK, Dumb question time.

I know that "If You Could Fly" and "Take Flight" were basically "If You Had Wings" and "Dreamflight" without the sponsors but I have not been able to find any video or details on these two incarnations.

Anyone have any details on these rides? What was the music like? Were they any different than the sponsored version?

I've seen Matin's AWESOME tribute to If You Had Wings and Dreamflight, but they don't give too many details on these two versions.

Can someone PLEASE tell me what these versions were like?

Thanks in advance!!!

If anyone knows where I can find videos of these two attractions, I would be VERY grateful for the link!!

I think they were, well I wasnt alive for if you could fly, but take flight I just remember being pretty much dreamflight with a new name. I'm guessing they got rid of the signage of the old sponsership, but I was like 8 or 7 when it changed so my memory is hazy.

I think Take Flight they pretty much just removed the "Dreamflight" song from the attraction and removed any of the Delta logos. I don't recall any kind of a theme song jumping out at me, so they may have just inserted some generic music, or perhaps used an instrumental version of the Dreamflight song. I don't remember a specifc Take Flight theme song...

Very thorough writeup on all the incarnations of these attractions here: http://www.omniluxe.net/wyw/iyhw.htm

The details on what changed over the years can be found under "Part I" of the article.

Thanks for that link! I've had the same questions as the OP, and somehow never managed to find that site. :o If You Had Wings was my very first Disney attraction, and I loved it. I was 7 on my first trip, and that song seriously stuck in my head. It was also my first time seeing anything like an omnimover, and I thought it was just brilliant. And my WDW obsession was born...

also- it's so sad how they tore up all the sets and everything to get rid of it.

I've only seen ONE home movie of "If You Could Fly" and it was almost entirely shot in night vision. It had to have been night vision because it when to the green screen effect and you could see more, but I was surprised camcorders in the 80s would have this feature?

The music was something like "If you could flyyyyyyyyyyyy on seabird wingssssssssssssssss and FEEL THE JOYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY that fredom BRINGGGGGS IF YOU COULD FLY.......oh if you could fly.........oh if you could flyyyyyyy yyyyyy." :zipit: :dazzle:

It was like a low budget commercial chorus group.

The Eastern Airlines plane was removed from the globe, and the projections in the first and last rooms were just of seagulls and not Eastern Jets. In one scene near the Puerto Rico fort.......the three musicians singing "you could sail on a treadwin down to old san juan" were replaced with a beach scene because it was clear that their lips were not singing "if you could fly".

Wow, thanks for that link -- my dad worked for Eastern back then and this ride was always one of my favorites for that reason. If I remember correctly it was actually extremely boring but I always loved it because Eastern was the reason that we got to go to WDW so often!

You're both welcome. Widen Your World is a terrific — and addictive — resource for information on old school WDW!
