If Walt was still alive...

This Duck has NO, argument with the sighted literary sources that Walt used 1930's thru 1960's prior to his death in 1966. The post refers to "acquired" properties such as Avatar and Star Wars, that were already developed by others outside of Disney.

I truly don't think he'd have a major issue with Star Wars. It's a archetypal "hero" story. Dead parents/orphaned, goes on a quest, finds old "wise" mentors, battles for good against evil, etc, etc.
I'd love to think he'd be as nauseated as I am with Avatar, though..lol
I think Mickey, and other "newer" creations would have been given a tad more dignity, and the princess whoring would have been kept to a minimum. I think more adventure tales would have gotten better play, and I think there is no way in hell they would have passed on Harry Potter. (another archetypal hero quest story).
Oh, and EPCOT would at least be super up-to date, have a nasa pavilion, exploration of space, tons of "new" tech before we saw it on the market. EPCOT is so sad these days, and it was truly about the future.
Also- No way Golden Oak would exist, in any capacity. I think it would have sickened him.

The creation of the theme park was for families to spend time together in a safe, awe-inspiring environment with attractions whose members compliment and cater to that vision in a courteous, helpful manner creating a lasting, pleasant memory for reflection while reinforcing the brand.

EPCOT wouldn't be a complete disappointment; the land developers did create Celebration as a sort-of housing unit. The greenhouse/fishfarm and hydro/aquaponic systems in The Land that uses plants and seasonings at the Garden Grill to feed guests would all have Walt's approval, I think.

The music of the Sherman Brothers used and loved on attractions would also get the thumbs up.

EPCOT and Celebration have little in common outside of involving residents. Plus, Disney no longer has anything to do with Celebration except for maintaining some office space there.

In regard to the title of this thread - "If Walt was still alive..." - (he'd be 111, btw), I think the whole Company would have taken a "slightly" different path.
If Walt actually returned from the grave today, I think he'd say, regarding the Company, society, and the world in general...
"I've been gone for almost 50 years and this is it...??? WT*?!?!?!?!?!"

Brillian! Zombie Walt's Amusement Parks.. Aka Walt's Dead World WDW

Really! Take a look back to Walt's day, his major shows were other mostly people's ideas from fairy tales (Snow White, Pinocchio, Cinderella etc, etc) to live action (20000 Leagues, Mary Poppins, Zorro etc etc). Walt used material from wherever he could get it and wouldn't be phased at all.

God, THIS again. Walt bought the rights to properties or used properties in the public domain and created his OWN DISTINCTIVE FILM VERSION of them. He didn't buy or use ideas that others had already fully and successfully developed. That wouldn't have aroused his creative instincts, and it wouldn't have been good business sense either.

Yeesh, yet ANOTHER "Disney fan" who doesn't know the difference between acquisition and artistry...

No need for the put down. Of course I know the difference, I've been going to Disney parks for 53 years and a large shareholder for 45. Yeah, I know how it works. Don't lose sight of the context of a context. It was about whether he would be unhappy with using other people's material regardless of process and as I point out if course he wouldn't. And, please Mary Poppins, Babes, Zorro and others were not public domain when he got them.

Every time I see a thread like this i will say that nobody has a clue how Walt would think about Disney today. NOBODY!!!! Yes if he stepped out of a time machine from the 50's he might be shocked at the direction that his company has gone in however like all of us, Walt's ideas and beliefs may have changed over time. We have no clue.

And he may have even been a fan of Starbucks.... so there!!!:bored:

That is simply not true. There are certain characteristics and traits that remained rather constant. The pattern of constantly picking up new hobbies is a big one.

Set your "Phasers" on stun... Walt may be unfazed, but to say that he wouldn't be "phased at all" fails to comprehend Walt's desire to run on the field during a Phillies game. Oh wait, maybe that was "tazed".

I hate to spoil the fun, but if there was a miraculous way to preserve Walt's life beyond cancer and the aging process, I think he would say, "Move forward and stop dwelling on your ideas regarding my opinion."

Funny. I've always kinda' viewed it the other way around-ish...
They're not moving forward because they DON'T think like Walt did/would have. They could give a carp about Walts, theoretical, opinion. TDO is a perfect example these days, it seems to me anyway...
They couldn't move their way through a wet, generic, Disney Parks paper napkin on their best day and the Guests can go suck eggs.

With all due respect, if he returned "from the grave" today he'd be saying something along the line of "braaaaaiiiiinnnsss"

Yes. And if he were still alive today at age 111 I'm thinkin' he'd probably not be very involved in the day-to-day goings on of TWDC. By the time most folks get to that age they're probably hidin' their own Easter eggs.
