Hi all! My friend and I were talking the other day about all the different Disney Theme Parks around the world, then the question came up -- If they built a new Disney Theme Park in the US, where would it be? Your opinions...

I think somewhere in Texas would be great! There was a rumor not that long ago that Disney was looking at a large amount of property somewhere in Texas...I don't know whatever became of it though

Someone once said St. Louis. I think that would be ill advised since there is snow in St. Louis and it certainly would be shut down for a couple months at least. So my pick is somewhere in Texas. It meets all the criteria. It's hot, the weather is similar to Florida and it is in between California and Florida. If you build it close to Dallas then there is a rare chance that snow falls.

But in all honesty, I don't think they should do it. Two parks in the USA is more than enough. There is so much work they could do in Florida and such so I'd rather see a 5th gate or improvements to the current parks.

Edit: I was beaten to the Texas thing. Oh well, I still agree. I doubt Six Flags Texas would complain either if a Disney park was built near them

I agree completely.

Heck, I would be satisfied with a more elaborate DTD in Texas. At least something Disney related would then only be 2 hours away from me:sohappy:

I doubt very much that Disney would look to add another park in the United States that isn't located at either the Disneyland Resort or Walt Disney World Resort.

I definately doubt we'll ever see a third USA Disney park. It would suck half of the attendance from both WDW and DL.

But I do think they should invest more in regional entertainment like the Aluani resort. It would definately increase people's interests in certain areas of the US to visit the Flordia and California parks.

"Search against any of the Disney forum websites, or just do a Google search. You can spend all afternoon reading rumors of Disney parks going into Texas.

If the Texas Disney rumors were all true, Disney would now have parks planned for Austin, Bastrop, Beaumont, Brookshire, Castroville, Celina, College Station, Columbus, Conroe, Frisco, Frelsburg, Huntsville, Katy, Houston, Lampasas, Lubbock, Magnolia, McKinney, Melissa, Midland-Odessa, Montgomery, New Caney, New Waverly, Paris, Prosper, Round Top, San Antonio, Sealy, Streetman, and Woodlawn, Texas—and undoubtedly other Texas cities too (but I got tired of reading Google search results)."

There are places in Texas (like Bryan and College Station and the surrounding areas) where you are within a 90 minute drive of Dallas, Houston, San Antonio and Austin. That's 3 of the top 10 largest cities in the USA (with Austin as #15 and Fort Worth is #17) and several major airports. That's where I'd put it.

/Never going to happen. I think we've seen the end of parks expansion in the USA for 20-25 years minimum.

Lubbock? Really?? I'm not sure why ANYONE would go to Lubbock for their Disney-vacation. I only went there because I had relatives who lived two hours outside of Lubbock in Seminole, and there was less to do there so we traveled to "The City" to see movies or shop. I mean, sure I understand getting away from big metro areas but still near airports, but Lubbock is not very pretty as well as blazing hot in the summer.

Anyway, I agree with everyone saying Texas somewhat near DFTW. Disney would be competing with Six Flags and somewhat with Great Wolf Lodge.

Plus it would be a MUCH cheaper/shorter trip for me. :)

They were really close to Disney's America in Manassas, VA back in the mid-late 1990s. So I'll put that in as the most likely area of the US to get another Disney park/resort.

But in reality, I think the chances of a park in the US beyond what we have now are very low. Perhaps more Aulani-type things, but Disney's other "regional entertainment" attempts have failed -- Disneyquest, ESPNZone.

As a 'what-if' scenario only:

Disney should consider looking into the Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg area of East Tennessee. This would be a practical move for several reasons:

1. We don't know what's going to happen with gas prices over the next years/decades to come. The Gat/PF area is only a one day drive from the majority of U.S. residents, and only a few hours from hot population cities such as Atlanta, Nashville, Cincinnati, Charlotte...etc. When gas prices & air fares hit the roof, this area still reels in tourists due to being so easily accessable to the majority of U.S. population. Whereas Orlando & Anaheim sit in far corners of the country forcing out the option of being the pracitcal family road trip.

2. The PF/Gat area is already a thriving, family-oriented area which reels in the types of crowds that would appreciate the Disney theme-parks. Instead of "Build it, & they will come" it is "They're already coming..now build it."

3. Do NOT underestimate Dolly. Many people who have never been to Dollywood would not consider it up to par with the "Big 3" in the theme-park world (Disney, Universal, Busch). However, Dollywood is very much up to that level, (clean, friendly staff, great theming) and head & shoulders above what you would find at a Six Flags, Cedar Fair, or other regional park chain. If Dollywood & Disney were going head-to-head in this area like Disney & Universal are in Orlando, throw in the fact that we are closer to home for most Americans...this area would soon become the new theme-park Mecca for travelers.

Of course, not having an international airport and year-round warm weather would be the hold-backs. But this is just a fantasy idea anyway.

In reality, I only see Disney strengthening DLR & WDW over the years/decades to come. A 5th gate at WDW? Highly unlikely, but not completely ruled out. New theme-park property in another U.S. city? Not going to happen; bank on it.

I'd guess San Antonio, Texas. Gets great weather...something like 300 days of sunshine a year.

I highly doubt they will ever build a 3rd US Disney park. I hope they don't. I'd much rather have a 5th gate at Disney World than anything anywhere else. I selfishly say I want them to not build any new parks over seas, I'd rather see refurbs, new rides and maybe a new gate. But hey, I can dream...can't I?

Texas seems to be the ideal spot. It would also mean that there would be a Disney park on each coast, as well as closer to the middle, so traveling would be easier for the middle of the country.

Still, I doubt Disney is going to invest in a new park, 5th gate or otherwise any time soon, now that Shanghai is underway.

Anaheim, California, most likely. I seriously can't see Disney building a new resort in the United States, as it would probably pull attendance away from Disneyland and Walt Disney World. Disneyland has two parks, which is good, but it might appear too small to be a tourism destination, so I see a new park going there before WDW. And that's before taking into account that WDW needs to expand the existing parks before building a new one, and even then, the Orlando area might be too saturated with parks to build another park. It's possible that a fifth gate at WDW would cannibalize the other four parks.

After Shanghai, I could see Brazil as the next location for a Disney resort. Not sure where in Brazil, but by the time they are able to make another resort addition, Brazil will probably be a great location economically for a new park.

What did they run out of room in Florida? I say keep on adding there make people travel. Everyone keeps saying Texas but thats even further for me.:( But if they did build anything in the US I think they would do Texas you need the weather. But I think if Walt was still alive we would have an amusement park on the moon by now.
