If ou could afford the more expensive resorts, would you use them?

We'll find a way to stay at the Boardwalk or Beach Club. Being walking distance from nightlife, good restaurants, Epcot and Studios is worth the price, plus the hotel amenities make the stay even better.

I love the WL. It's my favorite by far. Poly is a close second. Next week we are staying at POR for the first time. It's not a deluxe, but I've always wanted to stay there.

We usually stay at a moderate (Port Orleans Riverside) but this trip stayed at Wilderness Lodge. I have to say, we are hooked. Having a nice place to eat and a nice place to stroll around can be really nice (both POR and WL have them). Location as well plays a huge part in it.

We did stay at All Star Sports once and hated it. Not because the room was small but because it was loud for one. But another was it felt like the whole place was made of concrete. There were no nicely groomed lawns and trees. Just cement as far as the eye could see.

I would rather stay a little less time and enjoy my time than stay longer and be dissapointment. That is not to say that needs to be important to everyone but just replying because you asked.
As a man that had to live in a Motel 6 for several months, I found nothing wrong with the All-Stars but to each their own I guess. I have to admit, if I was rich, i'd proboly try the big deluxe resort with Chef Mickeys once just tom say that I did. :D

I would stay at a deluxe. We were lucky to stay at the Poly once, but if money were no object I'd stay in the Contemporary with a MK view. I'd love to watch Wishes from my room.

I can say without a doubt that, currently, we would not upgrade if we could.

Why? Because ... well, we could right now. We have weighed the higher cost versus spending money, and what it came down was that we love POR, and didn't think that (for us), the benefits of staying at a deluxe resort outweighed the enjoyment we would get from more spending cash.

Not to say that it may change in the future... just not this trip.

I'd try 'em (well, I'd try Contemporary, Polyneisian & AKL) but I'd probably go back to the moderate/value after a while...

Me too. Not only that, but we are so heretical as to find offsite, privately-owned homes/townhouses with private pools to be the best value choice for us. We don't use the busses much even on property, and we really really like having a separate bedroom for the parents.

For example, in our post-President's-Week trip, we're staying in a 3BR/3BA townhome, private heated pool, equipped kitchen, etc. etc. 5 mins from the AK parking lot (and 12 from TTC) for less than the rack cost of a single Value room (and about the same as the AAA rate for that room.)

We could afford to stay in a deluxe, but would rather spend the money on other things.

I actually just did this. I decided to splurge and stay at a deluxe (AKL) after only ever staying at values and once at a moderate way back in 1995. And yes, I would most certainly stay a deluxe if I could afford it each time. The amenities were nicer, and more comfortable to "come home to" at the end of a day. Each nice I relaxed by sitting out in the hot tub. Indoor corridors were lovely to have. Sitting on the balcony in the morning while my trip companions were showering was a nice start to the morning. Especially with the Savannah view room. All in all, it was a wonderful experience. So if I could afford it all the time, I would do it in a heartbeat.

Most hotel rooms cannot accommodate my entire family. I loved AKL(the first time staying with Disney), and took plenty of time to explore, relax in, and take pictures of every surface imaginable. Animals would graze right outside our window. And we spent more than enough time in the parks. I am a HUGE wildlife person, and it was truly spectacular. A good time had by all.

At the same time, you can still have an awesome trip to Disney, regardless of the hotel.

My wife and I discuss this very topic EVERY trip that we plan (which is every year)...we feel that as little time as we actually spend in the hotel room (just to sleep and shower, really) the Pop Century Resort is great in our book. All we really require is that the room be clean, and well, as usual with Disney our room is always clean, and has PLENTY of room for the two of us!!! Now I could see if a family of four were to try and stay in the so-called "budget" resorts, how it could get a bit cramped!!! Besides, with the money we save, it just gives us THAT much MORE money to spend at the WORLD OF DISNEY store in Downtown Disney!!! :sohappy:

The best in my opinion...

I too have been fortunate to be able to stay at several of the deluxe resorts. I have also stayed at the all star music, Port Orleans FQ and the Swan. They are all very comfortable and will provide a great launching pad for any vacation. That being said, If I could stay anywhere it would be in a deluxe resort. The attention to detail is incredible and the ammenities 2nd to none. We always plan into our vacation some resort time, staying at a deluxe makes the most of this time.
