Trip Report If March was a Whirlwind-July was a Tiny Tornado!

Hello All!
We've been back from our Disneyland quick trip for a few weeks and I decided to quit being lazy and get this mini report started!

I decided on somewhat short notice that if we wanted to get a little adventuring in before Ariel, now self declared Aurora, started back to school the second week of August we needed to get a hustle on.
So on short notice, Aleisha, Elsa (still loyal), Aurora and I were headed south to Anaheim!

When-an overnighter July 28th to the 29th.
Lodging-For some reason there are many names for this place. Best Western Plus, and or Park Place Inn and Mini Suites. Boy do I miss staying on Disney property.

So follow along if you would like to hear about our merry mini adventure!

DAY 1 (OF TWO!) 🤣

We had a reasonable time for our flight out of Sacramento, 9 AM, and if you read my March report you know the disaster that was our travel day to WDW.
I told the offspring in no uncertain terms that we would not be repeating that little fiasco.

So we decided on a 6:30 pick up time and I almost had a heart attack when my daughter txt'd me that they were running EARLY, and was I ready?!!
Hot diggity dog!
Apparently Aurora woke up early and came into Aleisha's room on her own and woke her mom and said "it's Disney Day!"

We did go through McDonalds drive through but had time.

We got to the airport (no running) and headed to TSA.

And do you see the cute little suitcase? That was the one that I forgot on the plane in March that created such a ruckus. And I paid dearly to get it back.
IMG_E3119.JPG

We got through TSA no problem and Aurora and I hung out while Aleisha and Elsa went for coffee.
See all of the nice things you can do when you aren't sprinting through the airport?!

IMG_3133.JPG

One little, annoying event that occured at the gate.
Very few things bug me like people putting their luggage or whatnot on a seat and taking up 2 seats at the gate.
We rounded the corner and there were 4 seats there but a man had his roll on in front of the 4th seat. He was sitting in the 5th seat. He could clearly see we were a group.
I stood there and he didn't move so I asked if anyone was sitting there and he gave me a look, you know the look, and he wasn't going to move it.
He said there are seats over there. Oh watch my blood pressure blow up the cuff!! I wasn't nice and asked could you move it. And then said a swear word that he repeated in an astonished voice, like how dare you.
My daughter who only caught the last part thought I was mean.

But, to contrast, guess what happened later? I left to go to the bathroom with one of the girls and when I came back he was gone and a woman was sitting there with her suitcase in front of my chair, her hands full of food and coffee and without asking or anything she almost spilled them in her haste to move her bag out of the way.
A very interesting comparison and I felt very vindicated that my original request to the entitled one wasn't out of line.
Sorry to go full story time on you but I think most of you have figured out my personality by now. We don't play.
Why can't people be kind and courteous or at least not, you know.

Anyway, thankfully he was no where near us on the plane and we got the girls settled in. There are no electronics rules when flying, it's survival mode!
IMG_3136.JPG

We had a very uneventful one hour flight to John Wayne and made our way down to where our driver that Aleisha had arranged for was to meet us.
IMG_E3123.JPG

He was so nice, on time and professional and I told him I would give him a plug on here. I'm not sure if we're allowed to put contact info on here so just message me if you would like his contact information. His name was Karim, and he drove us both to and from the airport. Nice clean car with 2 car seats properly attached per Aleisha.

We stayed at the Best Western that is literally across the street from the entrance to Disneyland with a safe crosswalk.
On such short notice there were no rooms on Disney property and crazy thing was none of the 50 some good neighbor hotels had a room online! It was very short notice when I was trying to get a room, less than a week.
I called Disney travel and the lady told me if she directly connected me to one of the hotels that they would probably have a room and that is how we got this one.

This is Elsa getting a ride to the room.
IMG_3130.JPG

I apologize as I didn't take any photos of the room. It was ok, 2 queens, a roll out and reasonably clean. You're paying for the location.

We changed into hot weather gear and after renting a stroller at the park were in front of the train station at 12:07 PM, not bad!

Up next, we get to see the itty bitty castle!

DAY 1, ONWARD TO THE CASTLE!

We headed up Main Street and it was hilarious! While the girls were excited they literally couldn't see the castle at first.
You can't see her expression but she was so happy!
And she loves maps, taking after her grandmother with her love of Disney paper!
IMG_3160.JPG

We got stopped trying to go through the castle and I didn't know why at first. We then realized there was to be a little show in just a few seconds.

Elsa showing her disapproval! There is never mistaking what this girl is thinking, and she's only 2!!!
IMG_3179.JPG

It was very cute and I'm glad we caught it. First there was the marching band and then many of the characters came marching out and there was a little dance.
IMG_E3153.JPG

IMG_E3150.JPG

After we were released, us and 5000 of our closest friends headed up the ramp.
IMG_E3155.JPG

We were headed to find something to eat but stopped for a picture in front of the beautiful mural.
It was a fun coincidence that Aurora (ours) was so into Sleeping Beauty before this trip.
Again Elsa showing her disapproval. I repeat, she is 2.
And I didn't realize the blurring app I use for the girls pics blurred out the faces in the mural!
IMG_3162.JPG

I forgot all about how you can walk up into the castle to see the scenes of Sleeping Beauty and we figured since we were right there and it wasn't too crowded at the entrance to it, we would walk through it.
I will say it was pretty dark inside and we had to be a little careful walking up and down the steps. I didn't get any photos because of how dark it was and people were kinda pushing their way through.

After that we went up and around and ended up at Galactic Grill to eat. Aurora and I fought for a table on the Matterhorn side of things but should probably have ventured to the other side to look for one.
There was a super nice family who had their large cooler on a seat (and removed it without us asking!) And they also told me they were leaving and their table was in the shade and gave it to us. Very grateful I was said grandma Yoda!

It was actually fairly difficult to get around between not knowing the park very well, it was hot and tugging the girls along (one who could have used a nap!)
IMG_3163.JPG

After a decent lunch, no pics because starving people, we headed back up the hill towards it's a small world but had to get post lunch Mickey lollypops.

As we were headed to get on the ride we heard music and I had Aleisha ask a cast member what was going on and she said there would be a parade in less than a minute, so we lucked out again and waited to see it.
The girls absolutely loved it and were dancing and prancing!
It was very small and some of the characters came towards them and waved at them and they were in heaven!
I think it is a special parade for the 70th anniversary.

IMG_2559.JPG

It was interesting this trip in that while we hit a fair number of rides we caught a lot more of the entertainment than we usually do.

After this we headed to It's a Small World!

DAY 1 CONTINUES, LET'S RIDE SOME RIDES!

After the parade we headed to It's a Small World and the girls really enjoyed it.
We had LL Passes as part of the ticket purchase and I think we put it to fairly good use considering we didn't even get in the park till afternoon.
IMG_3261.JPG

IMG_3249.JPG

After that the carousel had less than a 10 minute wait so we did that.
IMG_3254.JPG

We then went to Pinocchio (despite @ajrwdwgirl's advice.) I should have listened to her. They didn't enjoy it but luckily
it was a short ride.

Aurora only had 2 requests the whole trip. She wanted to see Aurora and ride Haunted Mansion.
I was so excited to get a pass for HM but then I looked and it had dissapeared! I tried again and it was much later, I took it and then it went away too!
We headed that direction and we stopped at a guest team and luckily I had a screen shot of the pass. He said he had no idea what went wrong and I told him I may have not confirmed the first one (my error) but on the second one I definitely confirmed.
He took pity on us and gave us a pass that we could use anytime.
IMG_E3210.JPG

As we were headed there Elsa crashed and while she took a snooze Aurora and I went on Winnie the Pooh!
IMG_3239.JPG

IMG_3220.JPG

After that we went on HM and Elsa did not like it at all (same as in March) and Aurora initally was a little nervous, despite asking to ride it, but then by the end loved it again!
I don't have any pics of HM.

We then headed towards Pirates and decided to ride it before we headed to dinner.
Elsa wasn't quite alert yet.
IMG_3234.JPG

We rode Pirates, it was a fairly long line but they did ok. Aurora was a little nervous but there was a lady in the seat in front of us who was very familiar with the ride and let her know what was coming. The thing she liked the least was the drops.

We headed out to make a scheduled dining reservation but stopped and found where Patrick Begorra lives. They were fascinated with the story because @ajrwdwgirl had told me about it and I bought them the Little Golden Book with the story before our trip.
This is another one of those frustrating things with people and their behavior. We were walking by the area and I didn't quite know where it was, but a super cute CM took the girls over to see it. (It's hidden in a tree) and a woman initially refused to move her stroller from in front of it so the girls could climb up and see it. The CM tred to get her to move a little. I wanted to take a photo of it for them to have but wasn't able to get a good angle. (In retrospect I am hoping the reason for her not moving was a language barrier, not her being rude.)

Elsa did her Elsa thing and pushed up so she got to see it.
The person on the right was sitting there but was kind and helped her up.
IMG_E3215.JPG

After that we headed out of the park to go to our dining reservation.
We went through downtown Disney and this display was really cool and we asked Elsa if she would like to get out of the stroller and get her picture in front of it.
Her response, no lie.
Nah, they're not real!

We continued on to dinner.

I'm glad they liked the story about Patrick. It's a shame the lady wouldn't move for the girls to see his house better. I don't know if the park decorates his house for Christmas, but it does get decorated for St. Patrick's Day.☘️
They really did, ty again for all of your planning suggestions.
I don't really understand some people.
And that would be super cute to see it decorated.

DAY 1 CONTINUES, LET'S (SORT OF) DINE!

We walked all of the way to the Disneyland resort, and while it's probably not a long walk it felt like it. Grandma needs to sit and get something to eat!

On the spur of the moment while trip planning I was able to get us a Goofy's Kitchen reservation, we've never eaten there before and the girls absolutely loved the character meals we had at WDW in March and aren't shy at all.

We checked in and we had a seat to wait to be called back.
IMG_3456.JPG

They have it set up so you go to a little room with cute pictures to wait to be called to get a photo with Goofy.
The problem for us is that you can see from the little room to where Goofy is greeting people.
Doesn't seem like too much of problem unless you have a granddaughter (guess which one) that is fast as a snake.
One minute her mom is showing her Goofy to her taking off like a rocket straight to him!
IMG_3444.JPG

Luckily the family in front of us was just finishing up and Goofy and the photographer were very gracious!
You can see the shoe of the exiting family in the bottom left!
I felt so bad because I know these characters have limited vision and she came at him like the tiny tornado in our title!
I think it's incredible that the photographer caught this moment, and not us diving trying to stop her!
IMG_3419.JPG

Things settled down and we got the normal expected photos! 🤣
IMG_3290.JPG

IMG_3395.JPG

Shortly after that we were seated and told we could go to the buffet.
It was large and had a very nice selection of food. I apologize again no photos because between getting them food, getting them to eat it and all of the character visits, parades and dancing! (Hence the sort of dining!)

First up was Minnie, they were enamored! I love that they have never been afraid of the characters and enjoy them so much.
IMG_3383.JPG

Chip was next. By the end of our meal they knew how to tell Chip and Dale apart.
IMG_3293.JPG

Then the dancing began. I wish you could see the absolutely determined look on Elsa's face as she rocked out this dance!
Aurora was being her princess self!
IMG_3469.JPG

Pluto came by and was great fun!
IMG_3295.JPG

Then what we thought was the last character visit, Dale came by.
IMG_3323.JPG

I don't have a photo, but Goofy was walking through close to when we were finishing up and stopped to fuss over the girls on his way out the door. We were so suprised none of us got a photo but the girls thought it was the best thing ever! Goofy as I understand doesn't normally go through the restaurant and greet people.

It's interesting, we all know how much things cost at Disney but this was a little pricey even by their standards. But, as I am typing this it has caused me to do a cost/value analysis.
You get photos with a character, a good meal with drinks, (Elsa ia under 3 so we didn't have a charge for her) a very nice number of character visits and they were all exceptional with the girls. Also in our case they honor the DVC discount too.
Probably not too outrageous at the end of all of that.
(And very interestingly the very next day I read an article by Tom Bricker that Disneyland had just increased all of their prices, so we were caught up in that price hike too.)

After that we headed out to walk back to our hotel in what should have been an uneventful 15 minute walk.
