Ideas to Surprise Kids

My daughter turns 5 this month..we took her last year and have already booked another vacation for this September..we haven't told her and I want to make it a surprise (my son will be 18 months, but I am not worried about surprising him, he already knows...lol..)...I am sure this thread has been done before, but here goes..what are some ideas you have for how to surprise her?? I want to do something different....Here is what we came up with..

We are taking my dad with us so we thought we could pack the night before, not tell her anything and just get her up and throw her in the car in the morning and tell her we have to take Grampa somewhere...when we pick him up for the flight have him say something like: "hey Keira, I'm headed to Disney World, you wanna go with me??"

The other idea is: she is BIG into Jake and the Neverland Pirates..we thought about doing a scavenger hunt and having her find the info..not sure if that work..

I wanted to keep it a complete surprise until we pulled up, but when she plays "going to Disney World" she actually packs a suitcase, gets on a bus at the parking lot, gets on the plane, gets off the plane, and gets on the Disney World bus..so that wouldn't work...so help me with idears...thanks !!!!

Even though my kids know like a year in advance that they are going to Disney every year, they still LOVE to get a surprise that day from Mickey Mouse. He even wraps them up like a present. It's usually something for them to play with on the plane. I tell them that Mickey sent it to them because he's so excited that they are coming to Disney.

Maybe you could have her get a package in the "mail" the day before from Mickey, saying that he can't wait for her to come to Disney!

oh this is a good one...they learned all about the post office in school this year and we mailed donations that she collected to the tornado victims so she would probably love that idea !!!

We surprised our youngest 2 w/ a WDW vacation last year since we were driving.
When we drove onto the WDW property, one of them said, "Why does that sign have a hidden Mickey on it?"
My other child that we were surprising said, "That bus says Magic Kingdom on it!"
Even after we told them where we were, they kept walking around saying, "Is this really Walt Disney World?"
I don't think they were convinced that we were at WDW until we went to the MK.

If you are looking to do something for your little girl, a basket that can be delivered to your room would be fun.

I like the idea of the Grampa asking her to go with him. That was sweet. :)

I love becanya's idea! the package in the mail sounds awesome!

I would do maybe 1 or 2 really random like for example a water bottle and a pair of comfortable shoes that would probably make her really clueless (these would be anonymous off course), and then a goodie bag with other stuff she will need for the trip and a letter from her favorite character.

This may be hard for younger ones, but one year, my sister & I surprised my mom & stepdad with a trip. We were having a cookout at their house, and we said "let's play a game to keep the kids contained". It was basically "Hangman", but we used Mickey head silhouettes, with each letter on the backside of it. We had mom & stepdad "help" the little kids, and as they called out letters, we turned the correct shapes, and it read "Mom & Tom, you are going to Walt Disney World in October!!" They were shocked, kids started screaming and jumping up and down. It was awesome.

For my son's 1st trip for his 7th birthday in 2000, we told everyone to get him gifts that he could use on his trip (he got a CD walkman, camera, books, etc). Each gift had something to do with Disney. The last gift was from me, with a Mickey card telling him in 2 days, he was going to WDW. He looked at me with this shocked look on his face, like "is this for real?" It was great.

For my nieces & nephews going with us next year, I put together a slide show of pictures I had taken on previous trips, added Disney music, and put captions on each picture. At the end, I put their names on one frame, and on the last frame in large print, I put YOU ARE ALL GOING TO DISNEY WORLD!! That was fun to put together & even more fun to watch them read the captions.

My daughter (6) knows we are going in Sept, but to ease the pain of the wait, ive been "mailing" her letters from various Disney characters every friday....maybe you could do something like that and have them leave "clues" in the letters hinting to the trip?

The only time I was ever "surprised" was when I was a kid....

We were leaving the day after Easter. On Easter Sunday, during our egg hunt, my siblings and I began to notice that every egg we collected was filled with Disney Dollars. We couldn't figure out why this was, and then when we found our baskets, we found out we were leaving the following day for WDW.

My son is 10 so he likes to be a part of the whole planning process now. We usually do something Disney related starting 45 days out. Watch a disney movie, pull out photo books, research one of the countries. I also pick up little disney toys through out the year and start a surprise a day. Once we get closer to the trip the prizes become stuff to travle with and all the disney shrits come one and we start wearing them. However, even with him helping to plan the trip and us doing a Disney something I still surprise him with an Enchated Call. You pick a character, give the time and date you want them to call and something special to say. My son usually gets the call the night before we leave. Here is the website. There is just something about Mickey Mouse calling and telling you that he can't wait to see you that makes the magic start running through you.

I love threads like this!!

We are surprising our kids at the end of July. We are driving so we are not saying a word! We are telling them we are going on a road trip and thats all. My daughter is 6 and she can read so we shall see how long it takes her to know where we are going!!!

I have to say I like the grandpa idea. So sweet!
