Ideas For Couples (No Parks)

My boyfriend and I are heading to WDW for our 1-year anniversary (No parks this time...he's divorced, and his son has never been to WDW, so he doesn't want to go without him. We're planning a trip next February with the 3 of us). My annual pass expires June 7, so it'll be burning a hole in my pocket while we're there...rough!

In about 40 trips to WDW, I've always been with friends and family, so I'm thinking of fun "couples" things to do outside of the parks. This also includes Universal (no parks, though). As a heads up for age-appropriateness, I'm 32, he's 38...we're not exactly partiers (at all, actually), but we enjoy a drink or two from time to time. We're arriving on Friday, May 31 around noon and leaving first thing Monday morning, June 3.

Here's my list of ideas so far:

* Richard Petty Driving Experience - This is my "surprise" anniversary gift to him. He is a HUGE car buff (he has a '76 Cobra II and an '84 Trans Am), and I am surprising him with the exotic driving experience (the Ferrari).
* Water parks
* Mini golf (That's not really romantic, I know, but that's kind of how we roll :D). I've done Winter Summerland before, but I'm thinking I'd like to check out the new one over at CityWalk - has anyone tried it?
* Dinner at Kona Cafe followed by MK fireworks on the Poly beach (and the Electrical Water Pageant). This one is for Friday night, our anniversary. I have always wanted to do this, but it's not quite the same if you're sitting there with your sister, lol.
* Blue Man Group at Universal
* Disney Quest (we love classic video games)
* Splitsville (I was in WDW in September and January but didn't check this out yet)

I know we only have a few days, but I'm trying to see if I'm forgetting something amazingly awesome, fun and/or romantic. Oh, and I'd appreciate any tips or insight from people who've done some of these things before - thanks so much!

Those sound like great ideas.

My husband and I loved to sit in the bar area of Fulton's and work our way through the appetizer and martini menus. It's a busy but quiet bar. If you a want more lively environment. Ragland Road is a lot of fun but don't expect to be able to talk to each other.

The Boardwalk could also be nice for a evening out.

I like the Fantasia Mini Golf at night and if you time it right you can see the Fantasmic fireworks.

I second the Boardwalk. Great grown up couples atmosphere.
Less grown up, but still my favorite non park activity - Campfire Sing A Long at Ft. Wilderness (could be coupled with the carriage ride?)
Watch the animals on the Savannah on the 'back porch' at AKL. I've always wanted to sit in one of those chairs for a few hours, just hanging out.

BMG is an amazing show. I think it's the best show in Orlando. If he is really into NASCAR, there is a NASCAR restaurant over there, too. It is not what I'd consider romantic at all, though...but sometimes love can bloom in the strangest gardens. :)

I have heard that the Daytona race car driving thing is better than Orlando's. No idea if that is true, but you may (or may not!) want to look into it.

I totally get him not wanting to go to theme parks without his son. My first trip to Orlando was a business trip and I could not afford to bring my son along. I actually had to make the company give me money up front because I couldn't afford to expense it later, lol. I did visit the parks (free tickets) and felt so badly that my son was missing it. I didn't feel guilt or shame to go without him - I couldn't take him and that was that - but I know some people experience those emotions. I did miss him terribly and it put a damper on things when I kept wishing he was there.

I don't think your boyfriend would feel anything like that at Sea World, so I'll toss that out as an option...and you can bundle Sea World with Aquatica (water park).

You could visit the Wilderness Lodge - see the geyser, maybe grab a bite at WCC or fast food. from there, you could take a charming stroll on a path through the woods to Ft. Wilderness. There is also a lot of freebie stuff at Ft. Wilderness. :)

I hope you all have a great time!

The lady and I usually pick one night and find some local area to wine and dine in. If you have the cash for a cab...Celebration and the Windemere areas have some good spots if you want a slower pace to soak in something local and not a million tourists...Melbourne is a good 30 - 45 min. away but they have a nice little downtown to have an evening in as well...

Monorail pub and restaurant crawl. Where are you staying? You can usually get a good AP rate at Beach Club which has the benefit of an amazing location and awesome pool. That's where I'd stay if I weren't going into the parks. You could still walk to the bridge and see illuminations from there. If you could convince your boyfriend to visit epcot just for an evening, I would, and spend the time walking around World Showcase.
