IASW refurb- devastated!

I've just seen about the refurb- and it's basically the exact length of our stay at WDW  I'm completely gutted as it's my first trip back for 6 years, and my DS's first ever trip. I really wanted it to be his first ride, as it's so quintessentially Disney :( I've even been showing him YouTube videos of the ride & he loves it.

Does anyone have any suggestions about what his first ride should be now? We'll still be spending our first day in MK.

I would also vote for Peter Pan. If your son is old enough you might want to try having him choose. If you haven't ordered them yet Don't forget the free customized maps you can get from Disney. Have a wonderful trip.
I have absolutely no idea about the customised maps! This sounds like something I'm definitely going to want, though! ;)

Thank you so much everyone for your kind replies. I love that I have you guys to talk to about this. I'm pretty sure that nobody else would quite get the disappointment I'm feeling right now!

We'll be going to MK for rope drop, so I guess we'll have the pick for first ride. It looks as if it's between Dumbo & Peter Pan. He LOVES Peter Pan, but maybe it's best if I don't set the bar too high too soon?!

I'll also mention Pooh again. To me, would be a great ride for a child your son's age.

Peter Pan or Dumbo as most replies have suggested. My personal suggestion is Pete just for the reason of wait time. As most of us know, Peter Pan can have huge wait times. I would hit this right after rope drop, then make my way to Dumbo. Whichever ride you and your son choose, it will be a WIN!

I'd say Peter Pan - we have the reverse problem, Peter Pan will be closed when we're there, and I'm quite bummed about that. Was so looking forward to riding it after 13 years away, and having our kids ride it. Well, IASW is a quintessential experience too. Oh, the People Mover (whatever it's called now) might be a good first ride too, or the railroad.

What a bummer. Seems like there is always something under refurb that gets missed. That happened a few years back at DL. iasw was going thru their big refurb where they added the movie characters I think so my daughters first visit didn't include small world. Hopefully we'll be able to make a return to CA next year and enjoy it then.
