I've read that they do advertise some of these codes sometimes in newspaper adds in larger cities, and postcard mailing too.

But yea, it would be nice to have these rates all the time. I guess we'd all start asking for the discount codes on the new rates then.

Now say I go on disney.com and get a quote on a vacation...is it 40% off of the TOTAL price of the vacation or just 40% off of the price of the hotel?

I belive it is just the room. I could be wrong about this, I just got the AAA vacation book for WDW for some comparison of the retes and they seem to be just for the room with some added features

Yes, that's correct. It's 40% off the room rack rates. But there are two other codes available.

One is for the same room rates + length of stay hopper tics.

The second is for same room rates + Discovery Magic Package (which has tics included)

So, you'll still pay the normal price for the tics and package as you would normally (actually I worked out the numbers and it's actually about $8 cheaper ), but still get that great price on the room rates.
