I can't believe that they've BLATENTLY stole the Jurassic Park Font! :brick:

I don't really see the blatant stealing that you refer to.

They used a font frequently used with all things associated with Jurassic Park. That font was used in the first film, on signs in the 'park', and is used in IoA if I'm not mistaken.

If it's a font in the public domain then nothing is being stolen.

You cant compare the two at all. The on in Kings Island is more of a teaching attraction, while the other is a journey to the past as a thrill ride. This is very similar to a walk thru attraction at the cleveland zoo that comes once a year, but the one at the zoo has spitting dinos and is alot more fun, but nothing compared to Dinosaur. I dont get the comparrison:shrug: Beside s losing 8 minutes of my life watching the video, I lost another 10 reading this thread.:hammer:

Actually, add another 2 or 3 minutes for typing your disapproval/not understanding of this thread, making the total of lost time come to over 20 minutes. Shameful. You could have just hit the "Back" button to begin with, letting the rest of us talk dino's, and you to go along your merry way. Hitting the "Back" button would only have taken you approx 1.5 seconds, freeing up over 18+ minutes of your life. It's also a fairly easy concept. But it's your minutes to do what you wish. I am using my time to watch a re-run of the '09 home run derby on ESPN. It's on right now. Well, I am also talking Disney, dinosaurs, and lord knows what else here on the boards at the same time. But that is called multi-tasking. Josh Hamilton of the Texas Rangers is really tearing it up right now at the home-run derby. Well, not right now, per-say, considering this is a previously-recorded sporting event. Do you watch much baseball? Did you know the All-Star game is next week? That may explain why they are showing previous year's HR derby's on television tonight. Of course, baseball has nothing to do with the discussion of dinosaurs, cheesy dinosaur-themed attractions, or wasting people's time. Barney was a cheesy dinosaur who wasted people's time. Though my eldest daughter loved him, so maybe I shouldn't call him "cheesy"...or a time-waster. But some dinosaurs waste people's time. Actually, I have never met a dinosaur who wasted my time. So that last statement was a false judgement on my part. But the thing at King's Island looks pretty bad. Ok, it looks VERY bad. And that is the entire point of this thread for people who didn't get it. We have it darn good @ Disney. Disney goes above & beyond expectations with their attractions...even ones that have been scaled back such as Dinosaur at DAK. But even with the cutbacks, it is still not sloppily thrown-together like the example I left in the OP. Disney focuses on story..not throwing out as many randomly-placed dinosaurs with no rhyme or reason. That was the point. You know, this thread is really making me wish I was on Dinosaur at DAK right now. But I'm not. I'm at work talking about dinosaurs and baseball online. Is it normal for a grown man to be doing this, when there are numerous other productive things he could be doing right now? Hmm...maybe not, considering how slow it is around here tonight. So anyhow, if something wastes your time...move along. I am going back to work now, or at least pretend to look productive.

Pretty lame. They're just placed along a path through the woods. Most of them make the same sound effect twice in a row. Some of them make elephant and mountain lion sounds. Others make the same sound as a previous dinosaur. How much do they charge to see this?

They charge an extra $5 to see this and unless you are really motoring you will spend a minimum of 20 minutes out there.

Case in point: The Dinosaurs Alive attraction at King's Island park in Ohio. What you are about to see will convince even the biggest naysayer that Disney's dino's aren't bad at all, and we should be grateful our dino effects have not come to this. Another side note: This attraction you are about to see....you have to PAY extra to enter (not included with park admission).

I was at King's Island on Saturday over the July 4th weekend. Let me get one thing straight here, King's Island is a wonderful theme park. It will cure the itch for the thrill seeker and you can easily spend two days in there. The theming is alright too, nothing Disney-esque of course but probably a bit better than a run of the mill Six Flags. Beast is possibly the best rollercoaster you may ever ride. It does make you miss Disney a bit though at the end of the day. We were on a ride called the Boo Blaster and it is located in a Haunted House with a ride similar to Buzz Lightyear. I kept thinking "boy, wouldn't it be nice to be in Haunted Mansion in MK right now?" But don't be discouraged, it is a great way to spend a day at King's Island.

However...............that Dinosaurs Alive was a disgrace. I get it, it's more like a museum than anything. It is a self guided tour and after you see the first two or three dinosaurs you are ready to leave. There is no theming in the trail, just trees and dinosaurs and cheesy sound effects. I told a cast member on the way out that with the space the had there (lots of space) they should have built a dark ride with it. The person who came up with that won't be telling their grandkids about that one. There is no mystique and you have to pay to see it. If you watched the above video, you experienced it.

By the way, AK's Dinosaur is a splendid ride

King's Island itself is not bad at all. Definitely heads & shoulders above our local Six Flags park growing up (SFOG), which specialized in parking-lot themeing, bubble gum hand-rails, and employees who seemed eager to get you out of the park. But King's Island was a nice change, and certainly better than SF's standards. We visited K.I. back in 2005 when Paramount still owned the park chain. Back then, even before some of their newer, bigger coasters, we had a blast. I agree about The Beast. That was our favorite ride on property, especially with the wooded terrain, tunnels, and overall a great ride. Don't get me wrong, this thread was not dissing K.I as a whole, just the Dinosaur attraction.

Really? REALLY? Have you never seen Jurassic Park?

Yep, it's pretty iconic.

If it's a font in the public domain then nothing is being stolen.

Fair point, but that font is synonymous with the Jurassic Park franchise... so if the Disney font was in the public domain, it would be ok to open a park called Dizzkneeland and use that font?

I think it shows a lack of creativity on Kings Island's part, that they couldn't design their own "Dino Font" - they had to copy.

its not really that similar.

Yea its really not, I just think its a similar color scheme that makes it seem that way. Its kind of like
images

although the fonts are not the same they use the same color scheme so people make the connection with the original. Of course I may just have way to much time on my hands and just over analyzing. :hammer:

To me, it's probably them doing what they can within their budget. I've seen attractions like this at our State Fair with far less animatronics.

It'll be interesting to see how they stand up to the harsh midwest winters. I can't see that being good for their systems.

Hey don't bash my park. :(
I work in Guest Services at Kings Island and used to be the Guest Services associate back at the Dinosaurs Alive area in the beginning of the season. I am a huge Disney fan but I think for a park such as Kings Island this is pretty cool. The associates who work the trail take great pride in their job and are very knowledgeable about all of the Dinos. The Dinos toward the end of the trail are enormous and they move as well. The trail is more on the educational side as is the movie associated with the exhibit. We have kids shaking with excitement to enter the trail and come out talking about all of the things they learned and which Dinosaur was their favorite. Some families are not fortunate enough to afford a trip to Disney World so I think this is a great medium for those families who can only visit Kings Island.

I still see NO similarity at all. The color scheme is even totally different.

Sure, I've seen the movie and I still see no similarity in the fonts at all.

I will agree with you if you will show me an example.

It's only similarity to the font of JP at IOA is the color scheme.
its not really that similar...:

I too am failing to see a point in the comparison to Dinosaur at DAK. Because some random park happens to have an underwhelming Dino attraction, Disney is suddenly forgiven for borked effects and figures? Disney set a standard and needs to live up to it. The standard for Disney quality isn't set by King's Island. The standard for Dinosaur was set when DAK first opened and ALL the effects were working perfectly.

It could be worse (and still might get worse even). But it could certainly be much better. No denying that. Don't lower your expectations or cease to complain just because a non-Disney park puts on a crappy show.

My thoughts exactly. As long as you're paying more money to go to WDW than you are a local amusement park, you have to expect better quality out of Disney. Just because something out there is worse doesn't make it excusable for Disney to let half of Dinosaur's effects break and not fix them.

No, I know you weren't cutting the park down. Just Dinosaurs Alive which I agree with you. That was a terrible waste of space they used for it. When you think of rides like the Mummy, Dinosaur etc. they use the scare tactics to the best of their abilities. Even Jurassic River Adventure at Islands of Adventure uses the T-Rex perfectly at the end and gives you a little scare. I am not sure why they didn't opt for that. They could still have had a museum-like attraction with Dinosaurs but with a wonderful dark ride attached to it.

Anyway, I love King's Island too. Going to a park like that helps me get my theme park fix when I am not in Orlando. I could not believe a wooden rollercoaster like the Beast could possibly go that fast. I literally thought it was going to fall off the tracks. As for Flight of Fear, I remember asking the cast member if it is similar to Space Mountain. He kind of gave me one of those "sure it is " type of looks. This ride was more thrilling than Aerosmith for sure, bar none. And the Windseeker, unbelievably high. Not for the faint of heart who are afraid of heights. I found it exhilirating.

I think part of the reason they didn't incorporate the dinosaurs into an attraction would be because it was an outside company that brought in the actual dinosaurs themselves. That is also the reason why it is an additional charge on top of the price of a ticket or season pass.
